Hysterectomy and one ovary left
I have had a Hysterectomy and an oophorectomy ( removal of right ovary)But now a year later I have two cyst that are causing problems on the left ovary. I am 26 years old so I had orginally left the ovary because i didn't want to go into menopause. But now with the constant pain again I don't know what to do. Has anyone else had a similar problem? please help!!

The heart racing, depression, and hot flashes are common menopause symptoms. You did not mention your age but since you only have one ovary, you could go into menopause earlier than normal. The transition into menopause can also cause erratic cycles and bleeding which could explain the spotting. (I assume you still have your uterus?)
yes i have been having those same problems, heart racing,depression, hot flashes, cramping, and some spotting. i also have one ovary and very concern and scared to go and have it checked. ive had so many cyst in the pass im afraid that will be the case this time. I really would not be thrilled to have more surgery and im afraid of having to go thru full menopause!!!!!
I had a hysterectomy and they left my right ovary and I am experiencing pain every month it feels like menstrual cramps but I know its not....im unsure of what to do...I was in er last month they said I had cysts on it..I also had a uti and kidney stones some one please tell me what I should do...I dont want to have another surgery. I am 31 & have three young boys to take care of.
I had a hysterectomy in December 2012. Since then I have so any problems with fatigue and depression muscle weakness Racing heart. They left my left ovary for now. I have had labs done and ekgs and everything checks out good. Has anyone had any of these symptoms after their hysterectomy??
My name is Nicole I recently had a baby girl last August it was a horrible delivery I had tearing of my uterus and vaginal tearing the doctor stitched me up there this then a week later caused me to have a serve infection and I had to have a DNC 6 weeks later I had my tubes tied and another DNC because my uterus was again infected during DNC my uterus was punctured and was left opened I was sent home that day and ended back in the Er with horrible pain I couldn't walk it was so bad I had to have a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy done then was told everything was ok I returned to work about 5 weeks later I worked 8 days and my stomach swelled so big I looked 9 months pregnant with horrible pain went to Er had now my 6 th ct scan and 5 th ultra sound to be told my uterus was again infected and I had a grapefruit size cyst on my right ovary 2 days later they removed my uterus and the cyst leaving both ovarys weeks went by then months and I ended up with another cyst on my right ovary that I ended up having to have removed last Monday I'm back to work now having pain on my left side I'm terrified I have a cyst and I'm scared to death to go thru menopause im only 24 I'm already having hot flashes and night sweats that the doctor is saying shouldn't be happening but is please give me your in put I'm so scared and worried I have 3 little girls that depend on me and I love very much and my boyfriend :(
I've been through various hormone therapies since i was 19, i've been having surgeries every year to remove all the tissue that has been building up since i was 24, i had my right ovary removed when i was 28 because of endometriosis.. and NOW i'm still having problems (I'm 29) i just finished my last session of Lupron shots and all my symptoms have returned. i get "persistent sexual arousal syndrome" when i get cysts on my ovaries (well ovary now) and let me tell you its not fun...having gone through so much before and end up losing my ovary anyway i am going in on the 28th of this month to discuss a total hysterectomy with my doctor. i am very scared about going through menopause because of what i went through on Lupron shots but i feel like this is my only option. i cant do anymore "trials" to see if yet another thing works. Best of luck to you and if anyone has any advice or has been through a similar situation please let me know. Like Summer, i feel scared and desperate!!

It is not the best thing I had one ( Hysterectomy ) at 27 also and I am 29 now and you know what I have to go back in under the knife and I will be honest I am scared.
I have been having the pain in my left ovary since the surgery and it has been 2 years and they are now deciding well this is what we have to do . I wish if they were going to do it they would have done it all at the same time. I just hope you know what you want done and don't let anyone talk you into something cause in the long run you may have been right all along .Best of luck to you all !!

I WILL BE HAVING A HYSTERECTOMY AT THE END OF AUGUST BUT THEY WILL LEAVE MY RIGHT OVARY IN B/C IM 27. IS THIS THE BEST CHOICE OR SHOULD THEY REMOVE BOTH??
Maria you are right about still ovulating. I had my right ovary removed approximately 13 years ago and continued to have periods because I still had my left ovary. I asked if I'd only have a period every other month and my ob/gyn told me I would have one every month because my left ovary would take over and work for both of my ovaries. I finally had hysterectomy last year after many years of issues but they did not take my left ovary because they said it was healthy and I was only 43. Well, now I've been getting cysts on my left ovary and have constant pain, too. But, I wanted to reassure you that your left ovary will still function and can still cause problems.
I have had a complete hysterecomy and they saved one ovary. I have been having pain every month when i ovulate. My doc says since I only have one ovary i should not ovulate...Well thats a lie i ovulate and its painful! Since the egg has no where to go it has to be absorbed into my body somewhere. I just had an episode and the pain was so bad that I was sure that something was going to busrt or my appendix would. Am I crazy or am I right about still ovulating with only one ovary even though everything else has been removed?

Hi Summer. I am new to this forum, and wanted to tell you that I have had a similar experience. When I was 26, I had to have a hysterectomy. Then, 4 years later, I had to have a 12 cm cyst removed from left ovary. They left the ovary because I was so young. 6 months later, I was back with 11 cm cyst. This time, they removed the cyst and the ovary. Unfortunately, my ovary was attached to my bowels, bladder and colon. Instead of stopping and doing a lap, he kept on with the laproscope. In doing so, he pulled out my urter tube and he did not know it. I went home and was back in the hospital with paratanitis. I almost died. They had to cut me from belly button to pubic hair line and repair my bladder. Then, 6 months later,I start having problems with getting cyst on the right side. I had a 2 cm cyst at the time, so they tried me on birth control pills. Then 3 months later I went to the doctor think I was having an appendicitis. They did a ct-scan and it showed a 9cm cyst on my ovary. I found a new gyn and she said it needed to come out. She told me she would do all she can to save teh ovary, but was unable to. That ovary was also attached to my bowels, bladder and colon. Now, however, I have a condition called Ovarian Remnant Syndrome. This is where ovarian tissue starts to "grow back" due to ovarian remnants being left behind. I have had one cyst since my surgery in April and it ruptured. I do not regret for one moment having my last ovary out. Maybe it is because I have no menopause symptoms and do not have to take HRT due to the fact that my body is producing estrogen. I know how scary it is, but you need to talk to your doctor and see what he/she says. If at all possible, I would suggest getting a second opinion from a gyn/onc. NOT BECAUSE I THINK YOU HAVE CANCER, BUT BECAUSE THEY HAVE 3 YEARS MORE OF SCHOOL. THEY SPECIALIZE IN FEMALE REPROCUCTIVE PROBLEMS. Please keep us informed on what you find out. Kasie
