IUD?

I am not sure if this is the right forum area, but I figured it was close.

I am new here, my name is Melinda, I am 25yrs old. After I had my son nearly 4yrs ago I decided too get an IUD, the copper IUD was inplanted 2 1/2 yrs ago. My doctor never told me I should check for it, however I read somewhere online when looking up information about my question, that I was suppose too be checking it once a month.

Now I know after this, I will be told too contact my doctor and go see a doctor, but right now I cannot aford a doctor, and the free clincs around here really suck.

After my IUD was inplanted I had very screwed up menstral cycles. I went 4 month with bleeding. Then I stopped for a full year, actuly over a year. I was in a car crash that flipped 3 times, I am not sure if being tossed around could have lossen the IUD, or what. I started my period again 2 1/2- 3 weeks ago, it lasted 2 weeks, this evening my DH and I tried ML and I begain too bleed. I am not sure if it was my period starting all over again or what. After I got my IUD my sex drive just almost stopped, now its through the roof. Have I lost my IUD? I do know that noone can give me the answer I am looking for. I have checked for the string and I have not found one, maybe my fingers are too short I do not know.

I know the post is quit long, but I am just a bit worried here. I really need too go to the doctor and I know this, again with all the hp bills piled up from the accadent, and everything else right now, plus my son breaking his leg after the accadent, things are just crazy.

Hi there, I hope this helps. I have the same iud. The string is just barely felt coming out of the cervix. It takes a few times to get comfortable enough to find it. But, basically feel around towards your back if you are sitting on toilet. You should feel something firm and round. This is the cervix. It is like the tip of your nose feels. The string is sort of like a thick fishing line material-sorry it's the only thing that I could compare it to. Mine stick out only about 1/4 of an inch. You are supposed to check it monthly, preferably after a period to be sure that it hasn't dislodged or moved. I'll be honest, I've had mine 9 1/2 years and now I might check it every 3 or 4 months! Best wishes to you.

I called the doctor, and he is going too call me back, I told the receptionist I could not get in because I cannot afford it right now. So she said she'll have the doc call me.
