Incision Healing after Abdominal Hysterectomy

A little over a week ago I had an abdominal hysterectomy.  I had my staples removed 4 days ago and steri-strips applied at the doctors office.  The incision over all is healing well but there is about a 2 inch section that is swollen and red.  I spoke with the doctors office and they said to not worry keep cleansing it and apply 1/2 strengh peroxide.

My question is this this part of the incision the top is swollen and off set from the bottom of the incision.  Is this just swelling or will it stay this way when it heals?  I don't want the doctor to think I am paranoid or vain but this would really be nasty if it heals this way.

Had abdominal hysterectomy on 11/21/12.. I am 2 weeks p/o and the bottom of the incision (10 inch up and down) is still open and leaking. Last night, I felt a "pop" near that area and when I checked the 2x2 gauze I had covering that area, it was full of blood. Called the dr.. of course he's not concerned, said to keep gauze over it and he'd see me on Friday... this morning, the gauze is again filled with a mixture or blood and clear/yellow "ooze"... once again, they are not concerned because I am not running a fever.. I'm not worried about scaring... I couldn't care less.. just worried that it will become infected before it heals completely...

I had a hysterectomy done 2 weeks ago. They found a 9cm tumor ( no cancer) so I had to  have the abdominal incision  the ovaries had to be removed because of hemoragonous  cysts. Came home two days later took 1 ultram  and got sick for two hours. No pain meds after that. 3 days p/o I felt great. Traveled from Dallas to Boston 8 days p/o. Felt a little increased abdominal pressure at week 2 but short of lifting things I am going about business as usual

It is January 20, 2012.  I was wondering how your overall situation healed?
I had a hysterectomy Feb of 2011.  The entire insicion opened like yours.  I had to have a nurse come out and pack it daily for 2 months.  Here it is January of 2012 and still not totally healed.  Did yours ever heal completely?  Do you have any leftover pain?

I had an abdominal hysterectomy - removing my uterus and both ovaries - including one soccer ball sized cyst and one softball sized cyst - on December 2, 2009.  It is now December 23rd.  One week after my surgery, my doctor removed the staples in my 7" incision. After she and the nurse left the room for me to get dressed, the incision popped open towards the bottom (although the top seemed to be healing just fine).  She said it was perfectly normal - there was something just under my incision that needed to drain (some sort of blood clot - nothing dangerous).  So, for the next 2 weeks, I've had doctor appointments every 2 - 3 days so that she could change the bandaging and replace the steri-strips.  Up until my last appointment, the bleeding was horrible.  I never did experience pain with the incision opening but the it scared me really bad.  The doctor said it had to now heal from the inside out.  I am happy to report, on Dec 23rd, that it seems to have healed.  I have a 2:00 dr appointment this afternoon to hear those words from her.  So... my point is.... if this happens to you - it may scare you - but it's not a real bad thing.  I got through it - and as much as it seems like it is taking forever - I am amazed as I write this that it was only a 2 week period.  You will be fine!  Best of luck to you if you're having the surgery.  It's not a bad surgery - really.

I had a hysterectomy done a year ago, a bikini incision of about 10 staples. My healing was horrible. still I am sore and my incision healed with bumps and over excess grow of tissue. I was horrified because i was told it would heal just fine with very little noticed of scaring. when i look at the area of my lower abdomen it is very depressing. yet and even still presently i still have pain in the area and now in my lower back. i still have one ovary left in side of me and now im worry if its causing me to have pain. help

short story.4 wks. post-op, i kept feeling something hard on my right incision side,I went to doc. and had a ct scan and he told me it was a collection of fluid and blood where my inner incisions had came loose and it would resolve on its own. well, that was friday, i went home[in pain all weekend]by wednesday,i decided to go to ER.i just couldnt take it anymore, So i stood up and my lower abdomen busted open.Luckily my father was at my home and he called an ambulance.pus, liquid like gel came pouring out of me.Now i have to daily cleanse this 6 by 6 area myself .Im still in pain and frustrated that my doc. knew this might happen on friday[before he went on vacation] and never told me anything about it possibly busting. thanks for the warning doctor!

Hello Everyone :-D
I am so new to do and I have questions that I am concerned about.
I had a bikini cut incision on 6/10/2009, it was about 8 staples and 2 of them kept bleeding out at hospital, bandages had to be changed daily...I got home 4 days later and went back in where the MD removed the staples 6 days later. he had the sterile or disolvable stitches where he told me they will fall out 2 wks later.....on the left side of my incision there is 1 that keep bleeding out, I change it daily and it is very painful on that side.....my first question is how long will this last? My next question is I am spotting where if I pass gas, it spots harder down below. I asked my MD and he told me that it normally clears up 2 wks later and it is coming from my where my cervix used to be....Have anyone experience this? Help please I need answers I am due to return to work on 7/20.....thanks :-))

I had an abdominal full hysterectomy done on  january 19th.  All of my stitches were internal except for one that was sticking out that I had removed on the 26th.  They told me that I could remove the steri strips when I was ready...I'm not ready yet to say the least.  However, in the very middle of my incision there is one spot that keeps bleeding some and this is really starting to freak me out.  Is this normal?  I have had 3 c-sections and have never had this problem.  I mean I always had the occasional normal oozing but not this.  Anyone ever experience this and should I be worried?  Thanks for anyone's advice on this

I feel I should let you know that there are hysterectomies without these horrow stories.  I am one who is fortunate.  I had mine done 3 weeks ago and all is fine.  My biggest problem was coming home from the hospital, turns out the meds I was taking (Percoset and Motrin, Advil, Tylenol)  was more a problem than they were worth.  Once I drastically cut down on the meds, my days and nights became so much easier.  Good luck to those not yet done.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy two days ago and came home after one night in the hospital. Shouldn't I have been given an antibiotic to come home with?

I had my hysterectomy on the 11th of June. I now am having to have home health come see me once a day to pack a 6 cm tunnel I have that is infected. All along I was concerned the doctor kept saying everything looks healthy no infection. Well it wasn't any surprise to me when my nurse came to my home and told me it was infected and called in antibiotics. I am so afraid this thing will never heal. Now I have another spot close to the tunnel that looks like it's going to burst at any moment. If anyone has advise please help.

Im sure that it will definently heal "normally," I have had large scars before that required staples, and I had the same problem.  They healed completely normal.  After surgery the skin is very sensitive and becomes swollen.  (some spots more than others) DONT WORRY that is totally normal, and the swelling will go down when the wound begins to heal.  But dont ever be afraid to ask your doctor anything, who cares what he will say or think about you... this is your body and you need to make sure you are comfortable with everything that has been done, and comfortable with the recovery.  So if you have questions dont ever be afraid to ask your doctor. Good Luck. I hope you feel better soon!!!
