Is it really BV? Bladder issues and concerns about metronidazole

I suffered from what I thought was a yeast infection brought on my antibiotics I took several months ago.  I took monistat and it cleared up.  Then about a month ago I began feeling like I was getting another one as I was having pain during sex like the previous time.  I tried the monistat again.  I dont know if it helped or I just felt better due to stopping intercourse but I had sex soon after and then felt symptoms similar to the beginning of a uti.  No burning just feeling of very full bladder and a lot of pressure and frequent urination.  I was taking probiotics, cranberry pills and colodal silver and it seemed to be getting better.  But after a few days came back and I also started having yellow discharge.  So I saw the doctor and he diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis even though my discharge has no odor.  I began taking the metronidazole last night and about 2 hours after taking it my bladder pressure went from moderately annoying to severe.  Any clue as to why this might be?  Is there something else I might have that could be agitated by this antibiotic so quickly?  I have read that BV is often misdiagnosed and I hope that hasnt happened here.

Hi nanook, I recently have had very similar symptoms after flagyl. I also had bv, but had been taking cranberry and probiotics like you thinking it was a uti. Then the flagyl made my bladder feel swollen and tender and more urgency. Did this get better for you over time or did you find out the cause?

I have had similar symptoms as you. What ended up happening? Did you have IC or something else?

Thank you for your response.  I have now finished all of the antibiotics for the BV and wasnt feeling the bladder pressure for a few days but it is back and sometimes pretty unbearable.  I also think that my spleen might be enlarged so Im not sure if that would cause any bladder pressure or not.  I got mono many years ago and then was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.  I am now feeling like I have mono again and have been feeling a lot of pressure in the spleen area for a few weeks now.  Could this possibly effect my bladder too?

I thought it could be IC but am really hoping its not as there seems to be no cure for that and I have already had to miss work a few times due to the severity of the pressure...also I can only work part time as it is due to my fibri being so bad so I cant afford to miss any days.  I have no health insurance so I cant even go get this checked out unfortunately unless I go to the hospital or something and get charity care.  Hopefully it wont come to that.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Bacterial vaginosis can present with a yellowish discharge but the bladder symptoms can be due to interstitial cystitis or urethritis. Interstitial cystitis is chronic disease of the urinary bladder associated with pain associated with the bladder and pain associated with urination.

Avoidance of certain diets like cheese, alcohol, citrus juices, chocolates, coffee, cranberry juice, processed meats, onions, soy products, tea, tofu, tomatoes and yoghurt often help in improving the symptoms. If the symptoms persist then get an evaluation done from a urologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
