Itchy, Swollen, and Having Discharge from Vagina

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what is going on with me. I am very itchy, and swollen in my outer vaginal area. There are no bumps or anything, but I have experienced a couple tears, and it seems I only get these if I wipe too much due to the fact that the area is already irritated and swollen. I do have some vaginal discharge much like a yeast infection, and I'm wondering if that is what it is. This situation is kinda weird actually because it seems like it is a seasonal thing with me. I remember that I hadn't had any of these symptoms since last November, and this and last month it started again.I'm on birth control and I have read that oral contraceptives can cause vaginal irritation?? It seems these symptoms always appear like 2-3 days before my period, and then they go away. The tears heal very quickly and are almost not even visible. They only bleed barely any and it seems to be when I wipe hard. My skin is very sensitive anyway and I have irritation from things like certain detergents and chlorine in my pool.I have been to the gyno on a regular yearly basis and always checked out with a good standing, no problems. I haven't been this year yet and I'm kinda afraid to go because I don't want to have anything bad. Does this sound like a severe yeast infection to you?? My boyfriend of over a year, doesn't have any problems or symptoms. Please write back!

This sound like you have  desquamative inflammatory vaginitis - I have suffered with it for years! There is no cure unfortunately but they can make the symptoms less severe with a prednisilone suppository that you actually place in your vagina! Prednisilone is a steroid though and can make the skin thin just where it is already thin! I am suffering now - I know I should go back but the steroids made me put on weight and there was the thinning of the skin side effect to consider. Apart from that there is nothing that they can do because it is so rare that no research has gone into it!

It sounds like a yeast infection. You should try otc 7 day treatment and if it doesn't clear up in a couple weeks, make sure to see your gyn. Refrain from sexual activity until you finish the meds and are symptom free.
