It's not fair! what other options are there for health insurance?

Hi girls! well today was not a good day like I hoped! for those who don't know Im currently 5 weeks, I went for my 2nd app. hopefully this time I could get a check up!!! well no..I had apply first for health insurance, medicaid, I wasn't accepted! ='(  the reason why? my mom lives with us...and even though she doesn't make the great deal of money she exceeds the amount they wanted, now she's probably gonna help us and all but! she is not gonna support all the expenses! I feel like things are not starting right! after crying for a long hour! Im up my feet and pissed at medicaid!!!! they said I would have to wait and see there maybe it's a possibility they might accepted if I call them and tell them the situation, we'll see...well another week that I don't get to see a doctor, but I've taking care of myself, eating healthy! drinking my milk and taking prenatal vitamins! =)
so now what are my options for? we were gonna look up to other things we can do and get for health insurance and maybe pay our own insurance monthly. maybe I can get some ideas or where to start from you girls! =) Thank you!!!! I just needed to vent a bit!

No, he doesn't have insurance either. but we're gonna look into getting this situation solved.
I don't think many people have this problem! the reason why this didn't work out is my mom lives here and they count her money, many so many people get help so easily, it makes me a bit jealous one of my friends got pg no money nothing and there she is having help from everywhere wonderful! nothing to worry about but here's me with not that much   and no help just because of my mom's income! she is not gonna support us! you know? and of course she has to count until Im 21 which I won't be for at least one more yr. =(  bf is very positive he knows it will gte solved and we will have the insurance we need, Im just very impatient and like to know we are good! and wanted to start on the right path which we are not!

i must say that it seems that you guys have alot of trouble with insurance for medical treatment, i'm in australia and i must say our medical payment ways seem to better, don't get me wrong but it just seems that you have a lot of problems, we get free treatment that is paid by our government and if we see a private doctor we have to just pay the cost and get most of it back from the government. i have just noticed hpw many people are having insurance problems

Also another thing I just thought about is, here in our town we have a pregnancy center.. Maybe you can check to see if one is around your town. They can actually help with lots of stuff. And the one here is also like a second hand store where you can purchase items that are almost new for a discount price.

I'm surprised that your mother would have anything to do with you being denied.  Do you work too?  My friend who just had her baby about a month ago was denied Medicaid at first.  When she talked to the hospital she wanted to deliver at they said it would be $7000 if she had a vaginal delivery and everything went as planned.  But if she paid it all off within 2 weeks of the baby being born she would get a 30% discount.  Well...anyway she ended cutting back her hours at work so she would qualify for Medicaid and everything was paid for.  Do you live near any medical schools?  Usually you can get pretty cheap care there.  Hope this helps.

with medicade everything is income based. They count household income. Which really stinks because her mothers money is her mothers money. It shouldn't count, but it does. It is a shame. Where I live there is a program called a gold card. It's a card you can use at  specific hospitals and it covers 90 % of the medical bills or more. Thats why I asked you (sliga) where you lived.

Check with local hospital maternity programs.  They offer one price for labor/delivery/doc visits/, atleast we did at the three hospitals I worked for.  It's a self pay program for patient's without insurance or in a pickle, they make payments right up until the baby is born.  Do you have Columbia Healthcare facilities where you live?  They are the one's that do it for sure, so I am sure others offer something similiar.  The hospital distributes the money to the physician, anesth, labs and other depts.  It will also include classes and different workshops and a carseat.

Although it is not recomended...I am not telling you to do this...I am just mentioning that I know of people in your situation and they just don't even mention the mother or say she moved out...
Also, where we live there is a clinic that is spec. for people who have no ins. maybe there would be one in your state as well...
Also we have a pregnancy center here...its called Chrisis Preg. Center...I think they can help with med. and they have everything you need for a baby (clothes,bottles,shampoo,furniture,toys,ect.)...they give you "mommy bucks" for things like going to the apt.,arriving on time, scheduling the next, doing homework (worksheets they give you), watching a video, ect. Then you trade in the mommy bucks for whatever you want...

Hello fellow Floridian!! Sorry your pregnancy is starting out on such a sour note but their are options.. The above poster mentioned NOT mentioning the Mom's living arrangement;) I don't see why your Mom "visiting" you is any of their business;)
Re-apply.
If you do want to get Medical Insurance, I hear BC/BS Blue Options has a good rate. I use them but through husbands job and they also offer independent Family rates.
You can call the County Health Dept. Tell them that you have NO insurance, No Medicaid due to denial, and NO money and NEED Prenatal care, and ask them what you are supposed to do? They will give you all the info you need. I would hate to think that all our tax dollars aren't being used to care for families in a time of need.
The way WIC used to work was you had to already be on Medicaid/Welfare to qualify for WIC. Not sure it is the same now but if so, you will have to get one to get the other.
One thing I can say for sure is DON'T take NO for an answer. This baby is on the way and they can't just turn you down for medical care. ARGH!! I am so frustrated for you.

I don't know how WIC works in everystate but I know at least here, Illinois, you don't have to be on public aid, just have to meet income guidlines...
But remember...as Jo mentioned, Mommy visiting is none of there buissness!

Hey Sliga, There has to be other options...Do you have Health Departments in your state? If so call them and tell them you have been turned down by Medicaid and see what your options are. They also should have a WIC program, this is a program that will assist you in getting proper nutrition for you when you are pregnant and then for the baby after it is born(formula). This was 15 years ago for me, I know that GA still has WIC but not sure about the restriction that go along with it. Good Luck

they should offer you other programs other than straight medicaid (i.e. famis, optima)....most of those people like to have the "don't ask, don't tell" opinion about these other options...because it seems as though they don't want you to get assisted health care. So if I were you, I would inquire about these programs and see if they are available in your state.
