Lining of the uterus thickened on ultrasound........period 4 weeks late

I have a quick question. I am now 4 week late on my period and I went in for an ultrasound on today and the doctor said that my uterus lining was thick. I know that usually happen at around two weeks of pregnancy. I haven't seen a period in 8 total weeks now. He also only spent about 20 seconds on the entire ultrasound exam too, so I'm thinking he might have overlooked alot of stuff. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this. Please share your input with me. I'd really appreciate it.

Hii ms_smiles, I am having the exact same problem.. I am 4 weeks late for my period, and my last period was 8 weeks ago... I have lost so much hair that I now cannot even tie it up, I’ve got allergic rash like spots all over my face and back... numerous pregnancy tests say negative (although I AM trying to get pregnant) I had a professional transvaginal scan that did not show any signs of ovulation and a thick uterine wall, almost as if I am ready for my period, my breast are swollen and have grown, I have a HUGE appetite for sweet things.... but I am not pregnant.... I am so depressed and worried and seeing your post gave me some sort of hope that I am maybe not dying lol  please update me on what you have found out about your issue...

lots of love sammie

UPDATE

My AF came last night that's 5 days after my last period. 37 days late. So that's that waiting for it to be finished so I can try again.  Never missed a period before unless I was pregnant but I guess it was just one of those instances. Baby dust to everyone else that is still in the game this month.

Hi could you tell me what happened with your situation.  I hv 24 day cycles.  So to date have missed 2 period, tons odhcg have come up neg. So went to the doctor for a tranvaginal ultraaound waiting for my results. The technician told me I wasn't pregnant ( dashing away my last hopes) . She says it looks normal . So I asked shouldn't there be a buildup of blood in there. She said yes that it is inter.. something.  Don't remember the term.  She don't know why it's not coming down. My question to anyone that's been through this before is is there even a slight chance I could be pregnant before I allow them to give me pills to jump start my period.  As an aside I'm 32, I have 2 kids age 10 and 5 and aside from when pregnant have

I have recently just got out of hospital on the 29th, I went into hospital with serve pain on my lower right hand side of my tummy, I have been having all the pregnancy symptoms going! I have had 3 pregnancies and I have always known I am pregnant before my period is due, this time I have the pains and symptoms but a negative pregnancy test so they did an internal ultrasound and they said the lining of my uterus was very thick which could be due to me being pregnant but as I was so early there was no way to tell, the doctors were brilliant at my hospital as I felt anxious over the results so they got the head nurse to come and do another scan on me and she said the same, she didn't mention anything about it being this thick if I was coming on my period so reading this has worried me a little bit as me and my partner have been trying for another child for a long time,
All I can do it wait and see... If anyone had these symptoms and has an outcome of it I would be greatull to hear what their story is as it would help out my mind at rest a little..
Thank you :)

I am a 48 year old woman. i haven't had a period in over 1 year. i had a D&C done 2 years ago because of thick lining. still haven't had a period except for a few months after that D&C. now my family physician tells me that all my blood levels are fine, and that the D&C caused my periods to stop...i don't believe it. i have lower stomach cramps, higher stomach cramps, back aches. i also have had an upper GI and colonoscopy. I have mild colitis but that's not what the pain is from. thinking that the lining is thick again...Any suggestions? I am making an appointment with my gynecologist for the vaginal ultrasound to see what's going on.

I too have the same problem. It started back in october of 08. The bleeding went on for 3 months, non- stop. When I went to go see my first gyn, they said the lining of my uterus was thick. The he started to ask me if i was pregnant or ever been? or have i smoked, drink, or drank coffee. I told him no. My problem have been going on for about 2 1/2 years now. My doctor kept prescribing me pills. I had to get a depo shot. I went into the hospital twice back to back. I have to take 3 iron tablets daily to keep my iron up. I was on birth control, but i was told if you take to many you could get blood clots. so i stopped. my bleeding was on and off. Sometimes it would be off for 4 months close and then come back on. The last time i bled was back in 2010 at the end of august. I'm am only 21yrs, sometimes i get afraid if i won't be able to have children.  I didn't let my problem keep me from having a good life.  my doctor is trying to prevent from surgery, but i'm looking at the only logical thing is to do a dnc! Just to see if that works. Oh and ladies he said fibroids can also play apart in the vaginal bleeding. So ladies please fined a good doctor who can help you and tell you want you need to know . I really want to make out with my Boyfriend, but because if this problem, it's becoming very difficult. SO every now and then i just pray to god that he just keep me and protect me. I pray for all these women on here whom are suffering the same thing i am. May God be with you all and I pray their is a solution to our problems.

ok so today is Aug 13th and i have not had my period since the first week of May!  I went to the doctors today after taking a home preg test and it coming back neg.  The ultra sound showed a very thick lining around my uterus but she really did not tell me anything.. She said it could be that my period is about to come or that i am at the early stages of being preg and to wait a couple weeks and come back if i dont get my period.  However i had my tubes tied last sept after i had my daughter so this would be crazy if i were to be preg.  dont know what to do?

Last week i had a positive test pregnancy, also has preganancy symptoms as well. Couple day later, i experience light cramp and backache, the pain on and off.  and spot coming out.  I had less pregnancy symptom now, but my breast still tenderness, and sore. Ob refer me for the hormone blood test. Till now i still have spotting and no cramp, but until last time cramp hitting me again, and i took tylenol just for safe (pregnant). THis morning call my dr. told everything what happen last night, the nurse say i should take advil or motrin to relieve my pain, and the dr. is now reviewing my blood test result. They would let me in the office, they say all book up today. So tomorrow morning i have appt. with the dr. THat a bummer!! I was concern maybe i had misscarriage, cu'z nurse told me to take advil or motrin, that mean im no longer pregnant, maybe my hormone level has drop.  Also i went on ultrasound dr. didn't seen anything, beside she told me my uterine lining wall is thicken. CAn anyone tell me what is going on?

I recently went to the OB/GYN and had a cervical ultrasound done and on April 9th scheduled for a biopsy.  During a regular pap exam the doctor stated he seen a red dot on my cervix and scheduled me for the ultra sound.  The results from the ultrasound came back and the doctor told me that my uterus lining was thick.  He wants to move forward with a biopsy.  I have very heavy periods with bad cramps.  I am very concern about this biopsy.  I am 35 years old and had a biopsy done when I was 19, it was extremely painful.  What is the full purpose of a Biopsy?

I had a uteran ablation done in July and I was very pleased with the results even though I still had my period. My last menstrual cycle I had a lot of severe cramping and pain. I have had a kidney stone and two children without pain meds and this was very uncomfortable. I was unable to get in to see my Dr. and figured if it hurt this bad next go around I would do something about it. Well it's next go around and it's twice as bad. It's got me doubled over and having cold sweats. It takes my breath away like I'm in labor. Due to my uterus being tilted back I'm having really bad back pain as well.  I had ultrasounds done the other day and so far all they can tell me is that my Uterus looks thick. Who knows. All I know is that I am very uncomfortable right now. Does anybody have any suggestions.

I am a 66 yr old female who was just diagnosed with thickingin of the uterine wall.
I had a biopsy which was normal and was referred to an oncologist because of history of Breast back in the 80'.
The Specialist examined me and my sonogram and biopsy report and said that my uterus looked like any normal post menaposal uterus.

I am confused because my Gyn wants to do more test, which includes another Sonogram. I ask her to have it done at the hospital instead of the offiice and I think she was offended, but if I am going to have a second opionion I want all test to be done independently of the original Doctor. Is this being disrespectful.
Please let me hear from someone else who has this condition.

Last month I found out that I was pregnant and approximately 10 days later I started bleeding. The next day I went to see my ob/gyn.  They did a very throughl ultra sound.  My uterus was thickened but they were unable to see a sac.  I was 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. They said the thickening was normal for pregnancy and that you may or may not see a sac if I ovulated a little later than I thought I had. My first hpt was neg.. 3 days later my hcg quantitative level was 2.  I had misscarried.  Hope this may help. Good Luck.

Hi Iamabeliever, how are you today. Just wanted to answer your post. To update you on how I am doing, the reason my uterus was thickened is because it was near time for my period to come on. I had already missed the entire month of July and was getting ready to miss the month of August, but it came the day before I missed that second period. So again, that was the reason for my uterus being thick. That's what the doctor told me. He says it usually thickens right before your period as well as when you're pregnant. I wasn't pregnant this time, maybe next time. Thanks for your post, I appreciate the concern. Oh, and I agree with you on the natural remedies. I don't care for all of those other pills either.

Hi ms.  A year ago I was diagnosed with hyperplasia.  The doctor was all for a hysterectomy or depra privera shots.  I chose to do research and I started taking the vitamins and using progesterone cream from the womentowomen.com site.  I went back 3 months later and she did another biopsy and I was completely normal.  Now I ran out of the vitamins for a couple of months and I had an ultrasound today and they said that my lining was thick and bumpy.  I immediately called womentowomen.com and reordered the vitamins and progesterone cream.  I believe in natural stuff not this artificial pill taking that has numerous side effects.  I too have a lot of bloating and feel pregnant. I'm not pregnant those are just the symptoms.  You didn't say how old you were and how many children you have.  I had my four and last child who was 10 pounds and my uterus has never gone back to normal size, it has always been on the large side.  I had fibroids but those are gone to because I dealt with them the natural way.  I can't find a doctor is willing to deal with things naturally, they seem to always want to do surgery or use drugs so they can get their kickback.  Check out womentowomen.com  Let me know how you are doing.

I know this is old but I have taking 6 first response pregnant test all positive went to my obgyn and he did an ultrasound there blood test said negative and urine test so negative but all he could tell me is the lining of my uterus is thick and that’s messing up my hormones and causing positive test but I know what pregnant feels like I have 2 kids and I feel pregnant bloating hungry and craving things my breast are sore. Can someone please help me they are having me come back in next week for another ultrasound
There are a lot of things that can cause the lining of your uterus to be thickened, and things that can mess with your hormones to cause pregnancy like symptoms.  It is strange that you got six positive tests at home and negative at your appointment- but if those hormones are going a bit crazy for some other reason than pregnancy- you may see all those pregnancy symptoms too (hormones cause those symptoms).  Unfortunately, I think this is one of those times that you just have to wait and see what happens as time goes on- sounds like they are following up with you well, and hopefully they can tell more from an ultrasound in a week.  Waiting is so hard with things like this!  Let us know how you are doing!

Hi, welcome to the forum.  I hope you come back and let us know how your ultrasound goes next week.  Unfortunately, our body can often give us deceiving signals.  There is the unfortunate chance that you had a chemical pregnancy and the hormones that triggered a positive at home are decreasing, so got  a negative in the doctors office.  It's also important to read the tests as the boxes direct.  Letting it sit at all results in evap lines that look positive. The uterine lining can thicken due to a hormone imbalance and this can also make us late, have long cycles.  Or you could be that rare bird that is really pregnant with things not in a typical pattern.  Please come back and tell us how your appointment goes next week!
