Hey,
I'm 21 years old, I am 5'4 and I weigh 140lbs. I used to weigh 110, but recently i've put on 30 pounds within 3 months. I have noticed that i have no sex drive, my nails are brittle, I have hair loss, and my fingers and toes are always cold! I'm just wondering if anyone here also had the same symptoms as me, and is it due to hypothyroidism? By the way, I have no other medical problems, im not taking any medications either and I have no family history of thyroid.
Thanks in advance!
Howdy! Just thought I would put in my two cents. Be careful with any medications for anxiety, depression, and OCD. They can have lots of side affects. Number one being lowered sex drive! I agree you should have your thyroid checked. You could just be getting depressed because you feel like you have gained weight and don't really want to share your body can lower sex drive. I also have eczema and it definately flairs up when I get stressed or a situation changes. I take zoloft for anxiety, depression, and some mild OCD. I would really like to get off the meds. just because I don't like to take them. I know it helps though. I recently got a new medical doctor and she is going to give me wellbutrin with the zoloft and hopefully get me off the zoloft. You can't just quit the meds. cold turkey it is too much to deal with. For your eczema I reccommend trying a lotion you can buy over the counter AM-Lactin. When you get out of the shower don't dry off and put the lotion on and just air dry. Don't worry too much about the sex drive situation. You are very young and not even married! You will have lots of other things to happen in your life that will be a lot more stressful. If your boyfriend doesn't understand that's okay there will probably be more in the future. Be careful with that oral sex thing! You probably aren't using protection. Don't forget you can still get STDs from oral sex! Don't be too gulable either your boyfriend could have been with someone else orally also. It's still considered sex ya know!! How about that I think I shared about $10.00 worth of my personal info. sorry!
Good-Luck!
While it could be physical, most of the things mentioned in your post seem to point to emotional issues. I would suggest starting with seeing your doctor about your OCD tendencies and your obvious anxiety. Medication can REALLY help - and so can therapy. I'd suggest seeing a sex therapist - a regular therapist with additional training in sexuality - to help you deal with your anxiety and any conflicting feelings you may have about your sexuality. I would NOT let this go. It will not get better on its own.
Did take a look at some of the symptoms -- have a lot of them! I always thought that I was itchy because of eczema, which also runs in my family. But over the last year it has gotten to the point where I can't sleep for itching.
Do lose a lot of hair, have had troubles in the last two months with breathing -- started to snore and feel tight in the chest, got winded alot. I just though I was getting fat!! And a week ago, just laying in bed, I got ridiculous vertigo that lasted almost a minute. I just wrote it off -- I shouldn't have. Never would have even considered thyroid, since I'm young and was under the impression it was an older thing (in my mother and grandmother).
You have no idea how helpful you've been!!!
I am 27 and have been treated for this for 6 yrs so this disease doesn't just effect older people. I am glad that I could help. I am not an expert so I could quite possibly be wrong, but hopefully you will atleast see a doctor. Don't ignore your body when it is telling you something is wrong. Take care of yourself!
I have been taking meds for hypo for the past 6yrs or so.
I had always questioned my Dr. if my lack of drive was because of anything. she just blew me off and said it was because I had been with my hubby for a while. But come to find out, it has everything to do with my thyroid. It can control everything. Menstrual periods, bm's,ovary trouble. Your tolerance to cold or heat, you mood, hair(dry and brittle, thin and even early gray), skin, nails. It can affect your sleep, concentration, memory, and weight. It is definatly something to look into if you aren't feeling 100%
Overwashing can cause many problems as well. Showering and cleansing that tender area 2-3 times a day can destroy the good bacteria down there as well, not to mention the drying effects of cleansers. I agree with the previous posters, see a doctor and see if you can get some bloodwork done to check your thyroid function, if that doesn't yield any results, therapy would be a good next step. In fact, I think that therapy in conjunction with the thyroid testing is ideal.
Good luck,
Andi
Go to the Dr and get a thyroid test done!!! They can give you medication to help regulate it and it will help lose weight. My mom has a thyroid problem and has to get it checked every so often to make sure her meds are the right strength. Therefore I also get mine checked to make sure I dont have any problems.
I never knew sex drive had anything to do with thyroid!
I bet that is it -- mother just had operation to have hers out two years ago.
*grumble* Love my family.
Sounds like it could be hypothyroid based on some of your symptoms:
Lack of sex drive
weight gain
dry, itchy skin
fatigue
and also the mood behavior. I would check with a Dr. that you are comfortable with.
