Menstrual cycle interfering with life!

Ever since I stared to get periods at the age of 12, I have had absolutely -unbearable- pain with every cycle. As I've gotten older (I'm 21 now) there have been even more problems that accompany my periods. From the cycle itself I still encounter the terrible pain, which causes nausea, which somehow leads to fatigue, and I also have horrible diarrhea to boot.

I was put on the pill, but my doctor now does not recommend ANY kind of hormonal birth control because of how depressed/angry/crazy it made me. It did help my cycles, though.

I have tried everything I can think of. I take vitamin B6 and omega fatty acids with my daily vitamin regimen, I start to take tylenol and ibuprofen a couple days before my cycle starts, and I apply heat on my abdomen to help releve the cramping.

The painkillers produce another problem all on their own, they cause me horrible stomach aches and put me in a absolute daze to the point where I almost can't function. And these are just OTC meds! If I took anything stronger I doubt I'd be able to leave the house during my cycle, medications always hit me VERY hard.

I currently have NO medical insurance to speak of, so my choices are limited. What in the world can I do to cope with all this? I have had enough of all these complications! It GREATLY interferes with my work and life in general, I'm coming off as being very unreliable since I always have to go home early or skip days entirely. Even if I'm not working, I spend the whole day napping.

Can anyone help me please?

I used to have horrible periods to the point where I would have to miss the first 2 days of school until I went on birth control.  I decided to get off of it because of all the side effects I was having and my period came back just as strong as it was before.  The only thing that helps me is to take an aleeve and lay in the bathtub.  Make sure that if you take aleeve you eat a little with it or drink a lot of water with it.  I just got on the Mirena IUD about 3 weeks ago.  Maybe you should look into that.  I'm the same age as you and have no had a child but my doctor figured since I have adverse effects to estrogen this was the best option for me.  The Mirena has 1/7 amount of progestorone in as the pill but it is only excreted in the uterus.  And the purpose of this is that it prevents you from building up a lining.  So you only have very light periods or none at all!  Your supposed to spot off and on for about 2 months and then they will be light or non existant.  I'm not going to lie...since I have never had a child getting it inserted was quite painful but I just took aleeve around the clock and that seemed to help.  But now I'm happy because I have birth control for 5 years and my periods will be very light and I won't have to worry about cramps!!!  If you have anymore questions about just ask me.

OMG !! I feel so sorry for you. I'm not sure about this, but I have always heard their are certain foods that help. Try looking it up. I use Midol. It helps me. Sometimes i have to take more than I am supposed to, but when it hurts, it hurts! Do you bleed really heavey? It's strange that at your age your period hurts that bad. I would go see a different doc. Do you have a health food store where you live? When you get sick to your stomach, try a pepermint. It helps me. Sorry I couldn't help more. I will check around and if i find anything else I will let u know.

I have had the same problem I remember lying on bathroom floor at school skipping classes because I could not get up it hurt that bad.  My cycles are always regular always 27 day cycle 4 day af.  So far I have found nothing to cope with the pain.  I can handle medicine alright but it just does not seem to work.  I have tried everything over the counter for pain and nothing works.  I was on bc for a few years but that did not work as well.  Sorry if you find an answer let me know until then I feel for you.  And understand completely!

what birth control pills did they try??

maybe a smaller amount of hormone could still give you the period relief but less side effects. You could ask planned parenthood about a mini pill (progesterone only), or something like levellen (what I'm on) that still has less hormone than say Ortho TriCyclen since I react (with headaches) with the increased hormones
