Methadone withdrawals and any supplements?

Dear Dr's:
I started using Methadon 2.5 yrs ago after switching from Oxycotin affraid of an addition to that drug.  This pain managment was referred to me by my doctor after having mutiply disks replaced in my neck.  I now realize that this drug is an addictive drug as well and probably may even be harder to stop.  I am very affraid of withdrawing and still having substancial pain, but I want off of this drug and would like to start homeopathic remedies for the pain that I may have.  I am currently on Neurotin 600mg -5x's daily and Methadone 80mg a day.  I am currently in school full-time, work full-time and with my grandson all the time -my daughter is not heathly and single.  (she is struggling with addiction- cocain and meth.) so, my life is very busy and I know I am not a good example and I too am on "drugs". What type of withdrawing will I go through(symtoms) and how long will this take - can I accomplish this inbetween a semester?  Is Neurontin addictive- should this be as great of a concern?  I don't feel as though I received all the facts from my doctor.    Please help I am desperate and scared.  Thank you.

Thank you so much for your sweat and smart words of advice and the insight on the type of board this is.  The more I read and search the more I realize that you are absolutly right.  The thought of checking into a hospital for withdrawing was shocking only because I truly had no idea what I was getting into until now - I cried and cried.  I do have intense pain in my neck and arms, but hope that exercise and homeopathic help may get it under control.  The more I find out about this stuff the more I want off.

To all:
It is so nice to see so many questions and answers to so many concerns that we all may face at one time or another during our lives.  I am glad that I stumbled on such a great network of people and sorry if I posted incorrectly or in the wrong area.

Dear tolive,This is not a physician moderated board. This is board full of compassionate women who have experienced lots of issues and have lots of info.  However, I think you should contact a professional in your area to help you with coming off of any drug.  You put your body at risk of many things when withdrawing on your own--you can check yourself into a rehab facility...most good hospitals have have a 7-10 day program.  It is not a substance abuse program, it is specifically for withdrawing.  They will monitor your vitals, and give you meds to help you come off easier. You don't need to do this on your own.  If you have true physical pain, then you have nothing to be ashamed of by taking meds to relieve the pain.  Most pain meds are addictive.  Don't be scared to get help.  Good luck--MH
