No menstruation, fatigue, and cravings for carbs.

I went semi-vegetarian (actually, pescetarian*) during this summer break. At first, I tried to balance appropriately the proteins and nutrients, but then, I experienced a situation of total stress due to a change of school during my senior of high school and let's say that I forgot about nutrients.

Different teachers, tons of homework, lack of sleep (I slept like 5-2 hrs per night), new classmates and bla, bla, bla. During that month, I had my menstruation normally, but I was tired all the time. Then, after (more than) a month passed, I noticed the lack of menstruation.

One week ago, during my midterms (where I started to sleep like 4-2 hrs after sleeping at least 5-6 hours finally after the first month of school) I noticed increased hunger, anxiety, and more fatigue. Now, I'm finally resting more, and I quit "semi-vegetarianism", but I'm still feeling so, so hungry (especially I crave carbs), and I still lack menstruation. I don't feel as tired as before, but I notice that I feel sleepy in the afternoons. What should I do?

Note:
-I only ate fish like twice per week. (*) Other times, I ate proteins, like eggs, soy, but I think I didn't have enough.
-I took some vitamins.
-I guess that due of the lack of sleep, during my midterms I noticed really bad memory, but I mention it just in case.
-I'm 17

I absolutely agree w/ specialmom regarding the changes in your routine and stress affecting your period.

You might also consider the fact that low Serotonin levels and low Magnesium levels can increase cravings for carbs before and during menstruation. Serotonin (a natural brain chemical) naturally elevates our moods, affects our sleep cycles and appetites; also allows our bodies to deal with stress better. A trick to keeping your daily diet healthy and to cut the cravings back during this time, would be to incorporate foods such as: nuts, sunflower seeds, yogurt, eggs, avocados, bananas, salads drizzled w/olive oil, and turkey. These foods help boost Serotonin levels, and are a healthy alternative to eating junk ~ you can goggle 'Foods that Boost Serotonin'. A daily multi-vitamin is a good idea because it can help increase nutrients that are low in your body. Bottom line, if you don't notice any improvement soon, you should consider speaking with your doctor about this.

Thanks for your opinion & advice :) I didn't have a clue about serotonin levels and cravings! I'll try to add those foods and see if they help me.

As I told specialmom, today I had my period, and I was/am glad about it.

Hi.  Yes, absolutely --  changes in diet (such as giving up meat) and lifestyle, changes in routine, stress, etc. can ALL lead to your period being WAY off and irregularity.  This would be normal.  good luck and hope it all becomes routine and easy soon.

Oh, thank you so much :) Today, finally I got my period, and I felt so happy, hahaha. I didn't think that these kind of changes could alter it...
