Normal Periods After IUD Removal - Is that unusual ?

As a single woman with two children aged 13 and 10 at the time, I had an IUD fitted in early May 2009.

After meeting a wonderful man who had undergone a vasectomy several years ago, I decided to have it removed on 4th June 2010.

The procedure of removal was uncomfortable but that was to be expected. I had slight spotting for a couple of days after the removal but nothing heavy, nothing long lasting and again, far better than I expected. I also had some stomach cramping but it came and went and was not too bad and did not last more than a day or so.

On 19th June, I had a period. I think it lasted about 6 or 7 days which was exactly the same as when the IUD was in place. I had a second period on July 13th - earlier than expected and it lasted about the same length of time too. My third period was on 7th August and last about 5 days.

None of these three periods have been noticeably heavier nor lighter than when the IUD was in place. My periods are lasting about the same length of time as when the IUD was in place. My periods seem to remain on the same frequency (other than the one early period) as when the IUD was in place. So basically, there has been no change to my periods since having the IUD removed. I haven't missed a period either.

All of the information I can find on periods after IUD removal tell of missed periods or heavy periods etc and mainly concentrate around people who have had their IUD removed in order to get pregnant, which is not the case with me.

I am wondering if all this 'normalcy' is normal ?

I had my IUD removed on 7/8/10 and like u had slight flow two days following but lasted about 6 days. Then had only 2 day period on 7/28 which was on schedule from pre-removal periods. However unlike you I am trying to conceive so I am paying very close attention to my cycles(as u are too obviously). I am expecting next cycle around 8/25 which would be at 30 days(if I'm not pregnant). Period before removal was 28-30 cycle. So to answer your question, your period since removal sounds a lot like mine. No real cramping or heavier than normal bleeding. Just the regular PMS symptoms. Although this first period since removal I had worse cramps and only light flow. So who knows. Sounds like you're doing very well though. Enjoy your freedom!!
