Ovarian pain

I have a condition i get every month the week before my period where i get nauseous and extreme pain in my left ovary. i'm not sure if its a cyst or not, but my parents called my doctor (im away at college) and they want me to get off the pill and on a different kind with different types/levels of hormones. they say its either a cyst or my ovary is inflamed or something. the pill im currently on is ortho novum 1/35. any suggestions or info would be MUCH appreciated, since this is going to happen again in a couple days.

hi girls, wanna shair my story. I went on a pill for about 6 month but had to stop it as i felt quite sick being on it. First of all i start feeling sick and tired all the time, low sex drive and a lot of abdominal cramps and pains, mostly on the left side of my lower tummy. Anyway one day i said to myself enough stop! Oh it was the worse time in my life my pain in my ovaries increased so badly that sometimes i had to stop what i was doing and bend down, my face would go pale and i'll look quite sick. I went to different dics but noone can tell what wrong most of them would say i might have cyst or endomtriosis where lining of the uterus goes and stays on different parts of your body and respond to your hormonal changes such as period which means start bleeding at that time of the month and if it bleeds in a wrong place you get pains from that. One of my ultrasound show that i have had cyst which ruptured and there was blood in my left ovary, which cased me a lot of pain, back pain and etc. My advice be keep watching your symptomes and visit docs from time to time to check up on you, do Usounds and blood tests, but normally all cyst will dissapear on its own or can be removed and its not a major procedure.
Good luck to us all LOVExoxox

Hey,
I'm also a college student and was diagnosed with a dermoid tumor on my left ovary.  I don't really have any great advice for you, other than don't panic if you do have a cyst or a tumor, 99% of cysts are benign.  I would think they'd keep you on the birth control, my gyno told me no matter what to stay on it.  Everyone is different I guess.  If you end up needing surgery, depending on the size of the mass, they'll either do a laparoscopic or laparotomy. I was having some other health issues at the time, so the gyno was the last place I went unfortunately, but they ended up discovering the cyst by a CT, trans.vag. u/s, and an ultra sound and finally a pelvic exam. Let us know what the doctor says, sorry I couldn't be much help!
