Pain after D

How much pain is normal after a D&C and how long should it last? I had my D&C yesterday and all yesterday I barely had any pain at all. This morning I didn't really have any pain. I was just sitting here watching tv and the pain just hit me hard. Yesterday I was good at taking my pain meds, but I hate how they make me feel. I had to travel out of town today and was gone most of the day, so I didn't take any pain meds. I needed a clear head today. Could the pain be here just because I didn't take any pain meds today? My nurse said that I shouldn't have any more pain than a normal period for the first day and maybe the second day. My bleeding is 99% gone. Just kinda spotting when I go to the bathroom. Is this pain something that I should talk to my Dr. about or is it still normal. Before the D&C my pain was about a 7, after (yesterday) it was about a 1 maybe 2. Now it's more like a 5. I'm not sure what is normal and not. This isn't my first D&C. With the others I didn't really have any pain or bleeding. This one just feels different. My mother told me it's probably because I'm older and it takes more time to heal. (my first one was when I was 18, the second when I was 21, and now I'm 28.Or could it be that I just overworked myself today?I looked at my discharge papers and it doesn't say anything about bleeding(which I don't have right now) or anything about the pain.Earlier I had pain on my left side and thought maybe it had something to do with my ovarian cyst, but now the cramps are all around my belly along with the left side. It's more than just cramps. any thoughts?

Well my pain is getting really bad again. It's like I never had the D&C at all. I called the Dr. office to see if this kind of pain is normal or not. The nurse told me that pain up to a week is normal. The nurses at the surgery center said there should only be mild to moderate cramping just a few days after surgery. But my pain is bad! It's not just cramping...it's pain.
The nurse said I could come in but it would be pointless because there isn't anything that they could do for me and that it would just put my Dr. behind in his schedual because I wouldn't have an appointment...they would have to sqeeze me in. She said that my only option is to just bare with it.
This is a very small town where everybody knows everybody. Well, my sisters both have a certain kind of reputation here with the Dr.s. One sister is a major hypocondreac (sp?) she is always going up there thinking she has cancer or a broken bone etc. My other sister has some major problems. She has gotten herself addicted to narcotic pain meds and is always coming up with pain to get more meds. (long story) but everybody up there knows about the both of them. And this past few weeks I swear I have lived up there because of the m/c and pain. I'm probably being paranoid, but I can't help but think that they are looking at me the same way they do my sisters and just brushing me off. For you all that have had pain after a D&C...what kind of pain was it and when did it go away? Is this really something that I have to just live with?? I can't live like this and the only pain meds that I have make me sick an just feel horrible. Anybody have any idea's?

Before my D&C my Dr. thought also that there might be an ectopic. He did an ultrasound and then took blood to see what my levels were doing. So we are sure now that there is no ectopic.

I guess my question is how much pain is normal after this?

Harttohart- Don't worry, my husband was doing all of the driving. I was still a little dizzy yesterday. And about the bladder, there is no pain when I go, it's just hard to get it out all at once. It starts and stops. It might do this 2-4 times before I get it all out...but no pain or anything like that. and no, it wasn't like this before the surgery. When I was in the hospital, I told the nurse that I had to go to the bathroom, so she took me in there and said that she needed to stay with me to see how much I'm bleeding. I had to go pretty bad, I sat down and nothing happend. It took a few seconds to get it flowing. I asked the nurse why it was doing that and she said it was probably just me being nervous. I have 4 kids, been pregnant 9 times and have had a few non related surgeries...I was not nervous at all! I'm used to nurses coming in with me to the bathroom. And yes, I'm drinking lots! I have always been good at getting my 8 glasses of water a day. :)

i think everyone is different when it comes to pain after a D & C.  i had one in june and had almost no pain.  two of my friends were amazed because they had experienced quite a bit of pain.  if it continues, i would call your doctor.  maybe an infection has set in.  good luck :)

Thank you all for your replys. I called back up to the clinic because I was just hunched over in pain and demanded to talk to my Dr. I was taking oxycodone and it was just making me sick and I couldn't stay awake with it. I have 4 kids to take care of so I really needed something that won't make me "stupid" and sick. He prescribed me something that isn't so strong and is not a narcotic. If the pain is still as bad after taking the new meds along with ibpro.or I develope a fever then I need to be seen right away. Regardless he wants me to come in on Tuesday to check things out. The pain may be due to him possibly not getting everything out. There was a lot in the uterus...more than he expected. So I just need to hold on till Tuesday unless the pain gets worse after taking meds.
Thank you all for your help!

One more thing...I don't know if this is realted, but when I'm going to the bathroom it takes a long time to empty my bladder. It's not over full, but it stops all of a sudden. I can feel that I still have to go, but it takes a few sec. to get it out.
And when I feel like I really have to go, I sit down and kinda have to consentrate to get it out. There isn't any burning or anything like that. I have had several bladder infections and it's nothing like this. when I have a bladder infe. my bladder feels really full and not much comes out. Right now I have the "normal" amount to empty...it just takes awhile to get it out.
I have never had that problem before. Could this have something to do with the D&C? Thanks for any input.

And this is the 3rd post that I have done and everytime what I have written in the subject line gets messed up. It only shows half of what I wrote. It was supposed to say 'pain after D&C'. I'm feeling kinda stupid always messing it up, even though I have no idea how I did it. haha
