Pelvic pain before/during menstruation

Hi! I am 38 y.o and never really had bad PMS symptoms. This year I started experiencing this dull pain in my lower-left pelvic area during my period. It even hurts to cough or laugh aloud, feels like something is going to burst!
What could possibly be going on? Thanks for your replies!
