If your vagina itches (the term "vagina" actually only refers to the inside part, the outside is the vulva), then that could be yeast.  If you have an appointment on Monday, ask them then.  They can go look under a microscope and see if you have too much yeast, which can itch like crazy.  Yeast infections usually come with "cottage cheese" discharge, but they don't always.  My two yeast infections didn't, they just itched a lot.

I've never actually gotten a pap smear, but it shouldn't hurt.  It's just a swab of your cervix, I think with a long q-tip.  To look inside, they use a speculum, with lubricant on it.  If you breathe and relax, it shouldn't hurt.  They do tend to feel cold though, and a metal one will be colder than a plastic one.  Pelvic exams are a little awkward, but just remember that the person doing them does them ALL THE TIME, and trust me, they've always seen something much weirder than anything you have that you think is weird or gross.

Yeast is a type of microorganism, and you always have yeast in your vagina, along with bacteria.  Usually, they keep each other balanced, but sometimes one starts overgrowing and causes a problem.

If you have more questions, don't be afraid to ask the person doing the exam.  They should be happy to tell you everything you want to know, or bring over a counselor or nurse who explains things all the time.  You can also google a number of things you're curious about, and read the wikipedia article if nothing else.  Use an incognito window in Chrome if you're worried about embarrassing things showing up on your search history.
