Skin Itching

For the past week, I have been waking up from my bed feeling very itchy from head to toe. Everywhere. Scalp, back, shoulders, chest, legs, arms, feet. I think it may be bed bugs, but my parents don't have any of these problems, just myself. I wake up with red bumps on my arms, fingers, thighs and legs that are very itchy, and the bumps can be quite big sometimes. I wash and change out my bed sheets quite often so I don't understand where it could be coming from. I am now going to disinfect everything in my room and maybe cover up my mattresses.. something!! Does anyone else have any other ideas as to what this could be? Could this be something inside me that should get checked by a doctor?

**If it's needed to be known, I am an eighteen year old female, no medical problems, just seasonal allergies, although, I do have latent TB.

The thing with bed bug bites is they are all in a row because they crawl along the bed and bite you.  What you are describing could be hives or could be something like the above poster suggested like flea bites.

You'll want to determine if anything has changed such as laundry detergent or fabric softener, make-up, shampoo, lotion, or anything else.  If you rule those out, go to the doctor for an allergy assessment.  If you have asthma, be prepared to have to accept like I did: urticaria (hives) and chronic itchiness with no reason.  It's apparently quite common for asthmatics to gain this, even if it's under control.  It can last for unpredictable amounts of time.  My itchiness has lasted two years and only kept at bay by a prescribed daily dose of antihistamine.  My body lets me know if I'm late taking it or forget to take it and sometimes if it's close to time.

But start with the basics: change in household products/hygeine products.  If any of that has changed, change back and see if that helps.  It may or may not.  If it doesn't, as I said, definitely go to the doctor about it.

Do you have a pet that sleeps with you? It could be flea bites. Or it could be contact dermatitis (skin allergy) caused by a product change. Changing hair products, soap and laundry detergent or perfume could all cause a skin allergy.
