You shouldn't consume 'unpasteurized' cheese, as it contains a potentially harmfull bacteria, since it is made with unpasteurized milk. It isn't necessarily 'soft' cheese....feta, blue, gargonzola....Only eat it if it says 'pasterized'.
You can eat loads of soft cheeses, such as Mozzarella, Cottage cheese, Ricotta cheese, Mascarpone, Philadelphia etc.
The blue cheeses can cause listeria and so can unpasterized cheeses.
Ask your doctor for a list of cheeses you can or can't eat if you are unsure.
My list says to stay away from unpastuireized chheses, blue cheeses and brie.
my dr just said to heat them if I was consuming them OR lunch meats / hot dogs. Some rictotta cheese is unpasturized too just look on the label

What steps can I take to prevent listeriosis?
USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provide the following advice for pregnant women and all at-risk consumers:
* Do not eat hot dogs, luncheon meats, or deli meats unless they are reheated until steaming hot.
* Do not eat soft cheeses such as feta, Brie, Camembert, blue-veined cheeses, and Mexican-style cheeses such as "queso blanco fresco." Hard cheeses, semi-soft cheeses such as mozzarella, pasteurized processed cheese slices and spreads, cream cheese, and cottage cheese can be safely consumed.
* Do not eat refrigerated p
Wow guys,
I didn't know this...thanks. It has been many moons since my last pregnancy...I gues I have much to learn.:)
Personally, and I am not pregnant, I don't eat any lunch meat or hot dogs after reading up on sodium nitrites. They are preservatives added to products that have been linked to all kinds of health problems, including cancer. I know Wegmans sells all natural sausages that don't have nitrites, and they are delicious. The brand name is Fresco. Sodium nitrites are especially dangerous to women while pregnant.
