UTI ?

About 7 wks after I had my baby (vaginal delivery no epidural) I started 2 get classic uti symptoms burning feeling ,having 2 pee when no urine in bladder, constant pressure . When I was a child i was in hospital 4 a month with complete kidney failure due 2 e coli , this resulted in a full recovery ! In the past ive had the same uti symptoms & have been able to rid of them by drinking water, cranberry pills, and frequent peeing. After a few wks of trying 2 rid naturally of symptoms i relised i needed antibiotics ob put me on microbid & did culture which came back contaminated also pyridium for pain did this for 5 days & still the same . ob did a new culture which has not came back yet ,put me on bactrim and same pain reliever now i feel like pyridium isnt working for pain anymore and am about 2 finish bactrim 5 day 2morrow with same symptoms ! I am confused because i feel like nothing is working & thus extremely frustrated & irritable . I work full time & care 4 my newborn so this is beginning 2 really affect my life . I read up on other causes i doubt its std as im only with my husband and have been tested during pregnancy as routine negative for everything im worried my body may b resistant to meds l aso have insulin resistance as well and am on metformin 1000 mg a day . any input is welcome thanks

It is not unusual for some blood to be in urine with a more severe urinary tract infection.  Unless you are running fever, nausea or vomiting following up Monday with physician should be completely fine. Nomally, uti's are something your family practice physician handles.
Im not sure how many weeks postpartum you are but after a few weeks following the delivery the woman will usually return to their FP for these needs.

When I had a Kidney Infection (upper UTI) I was on Cipro in my IV for the 4 days I was in the hospital and then I also had to take it twice a day for a week after that. It worked really well and managed to get rid of it. I would definitely bring that up. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!!

It is unfortunate you did not get a culture back that was clear on its indication of bacteria and their sensitivity. The 2 antibiotics you have been on are not necessarily innapropriate.  Over the past 10 yrs most physicians have chosen the fluroquinolones like Cipro, Floxin etc. In the recent past few years bacteria have become resistant to even those new drugs, and have forced them to go back to the older drugs like Bactrim DS nd Macrodantin.
Since the C & S was not clear you will now just have to do the trial and error method.  Try Cipro next, 500mg twice daily for 5d. Good luck.
