UTI or ovarian cyst?

hello,

perhaps someone else has had the following: since about december i have been having pain in my lower right abdomen and pain during sex (feels like he was poking something in my lower stomach). i went to the obgyn and he said everything looked nromal and not to worry because "sometimes girls just get pain". at the very end of january i went back to a GP because the stomach pain still hasnt stopped and is now accompanied by an aching pain in my lower back. tests came back that i had a bladder infection (despite the fact that i didnt have any symptoms of burning when i pee/blood in my urine/or frequent urges but nothing comes out) just stomach and back pain. the antibiotics didnt seem to change the symptoms at all. i was told just to go straight to an ultrasound to see if i have perhaps an ovarian cyst. so i will have the ultrasound done this wednesday. does any of this sound familiar to anyone? perhaps i still have a bladder infection but the drugs just havent kicked it? also, ive been having headaches just about everyday for the past two weeks. any ideas??

thanks !!

Did you ever find out what this was? I'm having exactly the same symptoms just on the left side and also just been diagnosed with a UTI.

Cysts are actually very common and not typically something to worry about.  I have had a common ovarian cyst.  It caused some discomfort and eventually passed on its own, again common, which presented like a heavier than normal period with more intense menstrual cramps.  My doctor was very unconcerned and I have not had one since.

You can have a simple cyst and a UTI simultaneously.  A kidney infection can be associated with low back pain or low abdominal pain and that needs to be diagnosed by a doctor and antibiotics given.  A UTI presents with that burning/painful sensation at the end of a urine stream and frequent urge to urinate.  That also needs to be diagnosed by a doctor and treated with antibiotics.  Antibiotics usually knock the pain out very quickly, within 24 to 48 hours of starting them.

Separate issues that go on at the same time but not related.  good luck

I could have opted for surgury to remove mine as it was so large.  I opted to wait and see if it reduced on it's own instead.  My son was 2 1/2 at the time and I just couldn't see going through a 4-6 week recovery time and taking care of him at the same time!

After all was said and done, it took from February to June for the cyst to completely disolve.  The whole while it leaked down my tube and into my uterus.  I had to constantly where pads and my periods during that time were excruciating.  They gave me Tylenol with Codine, but I found Advil and Aleve to work better.

If given it all to do over again, I'm not sure which way would have been worse.  It really depends on your personal situation and how much pain you're in.  I wish you the best of luck and hope you get through this more quickly than I did!

I had an ovarian cyst a couple years ago and that's exactly what it felt like.  It was this dull preasure/pain feeling on my left side.  And when I had sex it felt like my husband was hitting it. (sorry, tmi)  I had an ultrasound that confirmed I had a 9cm cyst (about the size of an orange).  It didn't really start to bother me until is started to shrink - and leak fluid into my uterus.  That was definitely the worst pain I've had outside of child birth.

You could also have a UTI on top of the cyst.  If your urine is testing positive, I don't see how a cyst could cause that.  I also don't see how a UTI could cause the pain/preassure feeling you have on just one side.

Hopefully the ultrasound will confirm what's going on and you can get treated and feel better!  Good luck!
