Unprotected sex with metranidazole anitbiotic

Hi, I wanna have some information about why is unprotected sex not efficient while taking the antibiotics? Is it because of theres a higher percentage of getting pregnanat or is it because of the infection? I’d like to have an answer to this since I’m on my 4th day of taking the antibiotics for 12 days and had unprotected sex.

Thanks!

Well, this medication is the gold standard for bacterial vaginosis.  Is this what you are taking it for?  BV can be passed sexually.  You can give your partner BV that they then pass back to you or be reinfected through unprotected sex.  BV is hard to get rid of in general let alone if you are exposing yourself to it over and over.  Often, when an infection won't clear, the sex partner of someone with it is also treated with flagyl.  So, using a condom would be smart in this instance.

If you are asking about your birth control pills, there is really only one that has been proven scientifically to interact and metronidazole is not it.  There are anecdotal things on the internet but nothing concrete or proven.  That is a rumor unfounded by science.  When they tested the levels of hormone in someone on BC pills and metronidazole, the level of the hormone was unchanged.
