It is NOT normal to spot in between periods.

It is important that you keep a menstrual cycle diary of your periods and any bleeds or spotting that you get as well as how you feel emotionally.

Are you sure the bleeding is coming from your vagina?

Bleeding in between periods can be caused by a hormonal imbalance, being anaemic and sometimes by a threatened miscarriage, or being on the menopause.  Keeping a record for at least 3 months will give you and your doctor a clear idea what is going on.  The doctor would do a blood test to check your hormone levels and your iron levels.  People who have low iron levels, will have anaemia.  This is when there are not enough red corpuscles to carry the oxygen around your body.

If you have been sexually active, and have not used any protection, it would be wise to get checked out for any STDs.

If you have been sexually active and have not used any contraception, the bleed may be a miscarriage.

Sometimes you may get blood from the urethra.  This is your pee tube.  When you have rampant sex, sometimes bacteria enters the urethra that can cause a urinary infection.  This can cause bleeding that may be visible in the pee.  If you get symptoms of feeling pain in the lower belling or lower back or soreness or a discomfort when you pee, you may not see any blood in with the pee, but those symptoms would indicate an infection in the urinary tract and usually the bladder.

Find out for sure where the bleeding is coming from, but if you do have any of the symptoms I mentioned, make an appointment to see your doctor.

If it is a urinary infection, you need to drink plenty of water to flush out the bugs.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes.

I didn't spot between periods but knew girls that did. Chart this on a calendar. Show your Gyn next time you go in for a pap.
If it gets worse, make an appt sooner.
