Vaginal abscess?

My left outer labia has been sore and swollen for a couple days...I just had a UTI so I thought it could be a yeast infection becuase of the antibiotics. This morning I noticed a skittle sized lump on my inner labia.  It was already "oozing"---yeah VERY gross I know. I havent been sore that much today but i am still a little swollen and there is still very little pus--more like a clear substance and barely a bump there.  Can anyone tell me whats happening? I got tested for std's and Im negative for EVERYTHING.  I no longer have health insurance so I need allll the advice and help I can get. Thanks.

One more info. I went for D and C (Dilation and Curettage) for my missed abortion and colonoscopy after reoccurring haemorroids. Docs in US doesn't give medicine without prescription. My intestinal doc forced me to go for it even though I told her I have not taken enough fiber in food or exercised. I think I got staph MRSA after this surgeries. Gang tomorrow to Gino. Let's see.

Going to doctor as my antibiotics are finished and I don't have US prescription. None is available off the shelf. Though I am perfectly fine.
Course should be taken atleast for 10 days .
Lot of rest was done by me as I don't have any kids so it was easy.
By the way I am 33 yrs old female with one missed abortion.
I am negative for any STDs or diabetes. Have thyroid problem. Negative Pap smear test.

This problem is surely western may be coz of tight fitting clothes, sweat, suger, overweight , scented soaps, shave of pubic area etc etc.

Or may be some hidden infection.
Go for MRI I would suggest immediately.
This problem is not there in India.

Firstly this problem is western issue.
I was diagnosed with hemorrhoid so.
Doc ask me to goto gym.
My fav machine was cycling.
One day my labia start paining while excersing.
Came back home research online and came to know about bartholin cyst.
Bought off the shelf hydrocortisone cream.
Cured.
Then stop doing cycling in gym.
After few months I again started using cycling machine ended up with second cyst on right labia Majora.
Didn't use cycling after that at all.
I got two bartholin cyst, which I drain using neosporin.
Went back to India.
After 10 months in winters I again got this bartholin cyst coz of excessive use of stairs.
Being confident of my home remedy I used neosporin and ended up having abscesses and cellulitis.
Went to gynac as it was very big in size and being a working woman it was tough to handle.
She told me to maintain skin hygiene etc etc.
Surgery was done after 4 days in hospital.
Lot of antibodies and sumac was given.
Hell lot of pain started while dressing using gauge.
I shouted like hell in hospital.
She asked me to do myself at home for few days as cut was very small.
After a month I got abscess again at a new place .
My gynac insulted me for not doing dressing properly, eating suger and being overweight. , not maintaining hygiene etc etc
As in her 20 yrs of career she never saw such a thing.
Again hospitalized and surgery.
This time for 15 days a nurse came daily for dressing at my home after I used to be back from work.
Now after following all her instruction not forgetting heavy doses of antibiotics and painkillers I was fine.
In third month after 15 days I again got this cyst happening.
I rushed to doctor very first day so that surgery should not happen.
She gave me heavy doses of antibiotics and painkillers.
And ask to go for MRI as this is something else. Some hidden infection in some other organ.
I was fine and after completing antibiotics course for 10-15 days I forgot about MRI.
Then for 10 months I was extremely fine.
Again I came to America.
And I got this cyst again at labia minors in winter season. It shifted to urethra opening second day.
I am taking all leftover antibiotics which I brought.
I am fine after 4 days.
Swelling is gone.
This time I also used
Calamine lotion,
Witch hazel
Tree tea oil regularly along with 1% hydrocortisone cream.
I have 100% insurance coverage.

Hey All

I have the same problem for over 10 years now FML... it seems to return when i will have my period sometimes in different places... I feel desperate it hurts like hell. I wonder if it could be a responce to the estrogen generated before mentruations? I don't know anymore i've had pab test for std and uti that came back neg in the past and I just feel so hopeless i've had this particular one about a week now and it stings so bad everyday is a nightmare to walk to sit even sleeping is painfull... thank you for sharing your experiances, nice to know i'm not alone in this and to see others tricks... usually for me acilisic acid helps... it stings a lot but it helps... i don't know how bad this may be for that sensitive skin but quite frankly after so many years of pain... i just am willing to try about anything...

you must go to a clinic and get it popped, then drain. If that pop on it's on, then the pus(poison) will get into your body and can kill you. Even if you can't afford it they have clinics that go by your income. You need meds to get the infections out your body, the longer you wait the worst off you going to be. I'm a RN, plus this happen too me

Let me tell you from FIRST HAND experience because just had emergency surgery because my outer lip got SUPER swollen and in just 2 days it showed to be an aggressive abscess in just 2 days that abscess got 2 inches deep and took over my entire outer lip that it looked like I had elephantitus and the open sore was getting larger at a very rapid rate of speed, something told me to go to the emergency room that my life was in danger because of it so "from the time I got there to the time the surgeon walked in I also developed a vicious form of cellulitus" that took over my entire groin in a 3 inch wide path and had traveled up to my hip ... she was shocked to find out that in just 2 lousy days it went from nothing to life threatening. Well the abscess is a staph infection turned out to be the MRSA form of staph. They did emergency surgery and when the surgeon discovered how deep it was (because it took over the entire lip) Its OPEN and packed with gauze if you end up with this ITS NO JOKE and its EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL ....so the surgeon is still afraid Im going to die because of this particularly because I have heart disease so fighting 2 potentially deadly infections all by themselves could kill someone healthy but put those 2 infections in someone with heart disease and their racing to save your life. and now a nurse is having to come to my home everyday to remove the packing and repack it and this is going to continue until I completely heal from the inside out. NEVER ASSUME something is just an ingrown hair or a boil and do NOT make the mistake of playing doctor with it like I did at first go to the emergency room because it could possibly be MRSA and that is highly contagious and no joke. I ended up with mine because half of my abdomen and all of the right side of my groin is mesh 2 inches down into the muscle an the mesh tore inside which was the cause of the abscess.

Hi ladies,
I wanted to let some people know my situation as well just incase it might help. I had a swollen clit and labia on the right side that started about a week ago. I was scared and started reading all sorts of stuff on the internet to try and figure out what was going on. I have terrible medical insurance and currently cant even afford my co-pay to go see a Dr, so that wasnt an option. I read about a smegma build up under the clitoral hood and that it could cause infections. I tried looking at that area and cleaning it out and it made it WAAAAY worse, that was a terrible idea. That was 3-4 days after I first noticed the swelling.
After that the whole right area (clit, both labias) got EXTEMEMLY swollen to the point that I was having a hard time sleeping and walking due to pain. I decided to try some yeast medication just incase that was the problem (stupid, I know, but its cheap and easy). That night (last night) I woke up to an open area in one of the folds where it appears to have popped. I squeezed a bunch of pus and blood from it this morning. It feels 100 times better and I barely have any pain anymore. I plan to attempt to flush it out myself later on tonight (I have previous experience with abscesses) as long as its not too painful. Still have no idea exactly what caused it, but I hope it doesnt return!

Hi and I have currently been dealing with a abscess just as this 2 years ago I got one after sitting in a part of satin pants on hot day 3 days later it popped on it's own I kept it Very Clean and dry the entire time it went away

and when I went to my GYNO Doctor I think within a week she didn't even see it anymore, and she told me they are common and nothing to really worry about

Now I recently had a stomach aliment and My doctor prescribed me 3 different Antibiotics to treat it, after a few days of taking them I noticed i was starting to feel REALLY under the weather when i had previously been feeling fine after the medication had adjusted when i was showering I felt it, it was not yet starting to swell but, within hours of that shower it started to.

I hot a Fever and started taking mortin for it, I was talking to a friend of Mine after I read up on it and everything was telling me to go to a doctor to have it pretty much Lanced off, and I was terrified to do that because I was afraid the medication which gave me loose bowels periodically and to have a open wound was a NO NO, so i talked to a she simply said "very simple remedy.... take a peace of saturated paper towel put TOOTHPASTE on it and press it over the abscess and leave it... do this several times a day, I after the second time I noticed the puss coming out onto the the napkin,

it didn't NOT POP, it was just absorbed into the tissue, I'm on my fourth application and it's almost gone, and the Menthol in the toothpaste soothed the pain INSTANTLY, (Only if your not moving around to much and agitating it) My friend told me Just do this every day for 3 days straight and make sure it's completely dried out and you shouldn't have any more problems. I'm going to continue to follow her instructions to make sure it's fully dried out and keep an eye on it because i still have one more weeks of these medication so it may flare up again, but, that what my remedy is and IT WORKS,

But as a precaution after it has drained go to see a physician to make sure that all is good, and there isn't anything else wrong and that it has FULLY cleared up, I was more fear full because I didn't want to take MORE antibiotics on top of the one i'm ALREADY taking,

Well that my two cents I hope that helps you guys with money issue and can't go to the doctor often, and I will try to update you on the results when it's done BYE

No way..don't pin whatsoever. That can cause an even worse infection. I know its tempting because you just want it to go away!

Instead place hot moist towels on the abscess. This hot compressant will relieve pain and it'll either bring it to head or reduce it. Either way..it'll be on its way out. Try to do it several times a day.

Hi ladies :) I hope I can be of some help.  First I am a mom and a grandma and I have had a couple of these in my life time.  I think they are caused by  our panties or pants that are too tight.  And sometimes they can be ingrown hairs that became infected.

I am proud of you for looking for help because your unsure how your mom might take this.   But please talk to her and tell her what is going on.  Tell her that you even looked it up on the web and it says you most likely have a vaginal abscess from an ingrown hair.  That will calm her down if you think she might freak out or something.  Because she as a mom and a woman will know that ingrown hairs just happen.

They need to be taken care of and you need some prescription medicine.  If it hurts and I know mine hurt so bad ! They will also give you some medicine for pain. (Thank goodness!)

But let me say again.  You Must go see a doctor okay ladies ?  This will not go away completely with out help by a doctor.  Plus going to the doctor is a lot better than hurting so bad until you can't take it any more , ya know ?

To the younger girls,  your body is going through and will continue to go through so many hormonal changes that these things may happen more often.  So it is very important you go to the doctors.  Okay Ladies ;)

Hugs ,
GypsyBlu
Grandma. :)

so im only 16 and iv gotten like skittle sized bumps on my labia at least 3 times now, they don't hurt unless i squeeze them. The first time i got one it went away, then the second time i left it alone for about a week and then squeezed it and everything came out and it went away and i just thought it was a zit but its been about 2 weeks and i just found another one. I squeezed it today in the shower and it started to discolor so i stopped. I'm embarrassed to tell my mom and go to the OBGYN because iv never been before. I'm confused why i'm getting these, i'm still a virgin! I think i will try the hot bath and see how it goes and give it some time and then check up on it again. Since i squeezed it in the shower its become less swollen which is good, but some advice would be greatly appreciated!

im really young, in my late teens and I have had this happen since I was in jr. high. I am a virgin, so I know its not an STD. its on the right side of my vagina, on the outter lip. I am really scared because I dont want to tell my mom. when it gets swollen, it hurts so bad and it usually happens around my period. when it pops, it smells bad and its all pus and blood, but with a green tint to it. kinda yellow, I also have another one right above it that is smaller but just as painful. im not sure what to do, and im scared to tell my mom because she might think I have STDs or somehing. I used to get them evey two years, but recently they have been coming in more. sometimes when they do, they only swell then go back down. I beleive they have only popped maybe about 5 or 6 times since 7th grade.

I was just researching how common vaginal abscesses are, and this discussion board came up and I thought I might share my story in hopes it may give at least somebody somewhat of a clue what is going on when they notice a lump on either side of the clitoris, I noticed I was a sore down there, after getting trying to find out what might be causing it, I noticed a lump the size a little smaller than a golf ball. Throughout that night, the pain was only worse, I was not sleeping at all, I could not get comfortable, and it got to where it was excruciating to deal with. I woke my dad up ( I am 17) and told him there was something very very wrong with my down stairs and I am in so much pain that I need to see a doctor now. He called my pediatrician, who had an appt. available three hours out, which absolutely was not going to cut it. We proceeded to go to the emergency room, where they told me that there was an abscess the size of an orange on the left size of my vagina that they'd have to do surgery on. Which did not go well, (especially when they won't give you morphine when you're an adolescent who has been to the same emergency room for heroin withdrawal having came in the local detox van(as if that was a necessary part of the story) (as if half of this stuff isn't rambling :) ) particularly because they were unsuccessful, it only made it more painful and they didn't give me any pain meds.
But, as soon as I got over to the regular hospital, they did the correct surgery and took all the necessary measures in making me more comfortable and abscess free. Surely, you half of you must know how painful it is, especially one that size, I wish you all the best.
The point I'm getting at, my lump appeared suddenly and grew in size and more painful very very quickly, at that point, I'd advice you to get to the hospital! :)

I am going through the same thing. It's horrible and I'm so tired of it. I have another abscess where they removed my bartholin gland. They didn't get it all out and now it's reinfected. I'm headed back for a 3rd surgery. This is the worst thing ever. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I had the same problem...occurring every month and extremely painful.  Every month I was put on antibiotics and it would go away but come back the following month.  I was finally sent to my GYN and was told until the core was removed...it would continue to return.  Even though it "disappears" and the skin is smooth, the problem is still there.

Two days ago i went into outpatient surgery and they removed the core.  Hopefully this helps and they never return.
BTW...it is an abscess that causes scar tissue to build if you don't take care of it .  The antibiotics are to clear up the cellulitis.

One thing I was told was to never shave down below...use nair or veet...because when you shave..and you get those little "bumps"....staph which lives on your skin enters into the nick and you end up with this problem...
