Vaginal irritation and pain, any idea what this could be?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been struggling for the last few years on and off with what I thought was a persistent yeast infection. However, I’ve been tested many times and it always came back negative. I felt as my general practitioner was very dismissive of me, so I decided to try a STD clinic earlier in the year. Despite not being sexually active, they did the standard STD test on me as well as testing for yeast and I came back negative for everything.

I am suffering from a heavy discharge, irritation in my vulvar region, burning and severe pain. During the STD test the nurse inserted a splectrum and it was extremely painful, before I got my results she just went with the assumption that it was a yeast infection and explained it was probably inflammation.

Months later and my symptoms still haven’t gone away. Inserting tampons is unbearable and I just can’t wear them anymore. I am planning to go back to the STD clinic to see if they have any idea of what’s going on, but just wondering if anyone has any ideas or has dealt with similar until then?

Thanks!

I am so very sorry to hear this hon.  This sounds like a difficult thing to deal with which is saying the least!  I'm wondering what would happen if they gave you a shot of prednisone?  It is well known for reduction of inflammation and I'd be curious if it had any affect.  And based on their assumption that it is inflammation, I would think even taking ibuprofen would reduce it.  Which I'm sure you've taken during all this time and it hasn't done anything, right?  Just curious about that.  But that is abnormal to have such a difficult situation that you can not insert a tampon.  I'm sure sex is not something happening with this situation either.  And asking you to just deal with it, well, that's not acceptable!  There is something called Vaginismus.  Please look it up.  This involves actually a muscle spasm of the pelvic floor wall and women who have this can not insert tampons easily, have trouble with gynecological exams, sex is a no go.  Sound familiar? I absolutely think you need re evaluation of a doctor and up front say you are not taking 'it's yeast or nothing' as an answer.  That this is not normal and you need help with this situation.

One question though, besides the inability to insert things, is there discharge, itching?
