Why are my nipples cracked?

They do not typically have any sort of discharge (it's rare when they do) and it has never been because of pregnancy or breastfeeding. It isn't painful either.

Well, you could put lotion on them.  It's skin after all.  Lanolin which comes in a purple tube is what breastfeeding mama's do for cracked nipples so you could pick some of that up and rub it in.  But really, this may just be the appearance of your nipples since it doesn't hurt.  If you have discharge, that is a hormonal issue which is probably an imbalance.  Non lactating women (those without babies) are not supposed to have discharge.  I had prolactemia due to excessive estrogen production.  So, if you have discharge, run it by your doctor.  good luck
