Why is my period nearly 5 months late?

I haven't got my period since January 7th. I'm 18 and have been getting my period for 4 years. I know there is no way I'm pregnant as I'm not sexually active. My period has often been irregular but never this long. I have started to get sharp pains in my lower abdomen in the last few weeks and my stomach has been slightly swollen. I'm 5"5 and 114lbs and have been under streets due to upcoming exams if any of this helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
You seem to be having secondary amenorrhea. Secondary amenorrhea is when a woman who has had normal menstrual cycles stops getting her monthly period for 3 or more months.

Causes of secondary amenorrhea include stress and anxiety, malnutrition, depression, overexercising, sudden weight loss or gain (obesity),thyroid disorders and hormonal imbalance due to polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS).Smoking is also associated with secondary amenorrhea. Sometimes tumors of the ovaries and brain may also cause absence of menstruation.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi,
Absence of periods for several months needs further evaluation. Stress can be one of the factors delaying periods. But other conditions like - anaemia, unexplained or sudden weight gain or weight loss, hypothyroidism, and polycystic disease of the ovary also need mention. An examination and an ultrasound scan need to be done. Consult your Doctor.
Take care & good luck.
