Yasmin Birth Control Pill - Questions about side effects when stopping

Hello,

I have been on Yasmin for 6 months.  I have stopped because my husband and I are considering having another baby.

Well, I decided to search for some info. in regards to stopping yasmin and came across a message forum.  (not this one)

Okay, now, my concern is the effcts after STOPPING yasmin.
I understand that all bc pills are different and so are we women as far as side effects go.  I have read postings about women who stopped taking yasmin and have experienced the following:

- anxiety, panic attacks, heart palpitations and fluttering
- depression
- excessive weight gain
- hair loss

*I already have a prob. with depression, anxiety and panic attacks, so I am currently on medication.  (Will be weaned off if not good during the pregnancy - just wanted you to know I am thinking it all through:)

*It is one thing to gain maybe 5 lbs. or to gain weight when pregnant.  I have been pregnant before and understand weight gain comes with this.  LOL  HOWEVER, my concern is mainly the emotional / mental side effects after stopping yasmin, as well as excessive weight gain after stopping.  (while not pregnant)

Has anyone either Experienced these side effects after stopping yasmin OR known of anyone who has or know anything about these effects.  I am guessing they are caused from the drop in the hormone levels.  Also, I have heard about primrose oil and flaxseed oil being good to regulate hormones or help PMS symptoms.  (I was mainly on yasmin for PMS symptoms / moods and to regulate my periods)

Thank you!

I have just stopped Yasmin for various reasons, and am not quite sure yet what the results are. But what I would like to say is that I have fallen pregnant very quickly after having stopped Yasmin (twice), so this was not a problem for me.
Thanks for all these posts, it is very encouraging!

Ive just recently started taking the yasmin pill because it was recommended by the GP but after reading all these comments it scared me. After taking the pill I've been really tired, all i want to do is sleep, some days i feel sick and i get really bad mood swings.
But when you stopped, did everyone get bad acne? Because ive never had trouble with it before and i dont want it to start because of this pill.

I've been taking birth control pills since for about 10 years (on and off), and I started them to clear out my acne. I tried different ones, which had more obvious side effects - I have been on Yasmin for more than 3.5 years after a 6 month break from any other bc pills. Within that 6 months I've experienced hair loss which made me start Yasmin - little did I know that my body was just getting used to no having extra hormones and it is just adjusting.

During the 3.5 years being on yasmin, I have experience the symptoms:

Weight Gain - Gradual weight gain:  I thought that my gaining weight had more to do with my age (hitting 30) than with the pills but from this forum I guess it is related to taking Yasmin for so long.  I've gained about 10 pounds which is about 10% of my body weight.

Hair Loss - I have noticed more than usual hair loss... I have thin and very fine hair to begin and can't really afford to loose more than usual.

Tiredness

Anxiety - I am not sure if this is pill related or just I inherited this from my mother, but I feel I am having a serious decease all the time... any new sickness I hear of, I think I have it or will get it soon!!!

Loss of sex drive - This is a big problem for me... my sex drive is non-existent

Dryness - even worse... having no sex drive to begin with plus having pain during sex is not a good combination

I have stopped the pill last week and have my period now... Hope everything goes back to normal.  I'm really worried about losing more hair (it is already bad enough), but looking forward to losing some weight... and ofcourse to have normal sex!

I will keep you posted on my progress!

BTW, do anyone know how long the hair loss lasts after quitting the pill?

I was on Yasmin for over 5 years starting at the age of 25. While I was on yasmin my periods were regular, my weight was stable and I didn't notice any adverse side effects that I thought were related to the yasmin.  However, while I was on the yasmine I had symptoms that doctors were not able to explain with medical tests and I wasn't aware that they could have been linked to Yasmine.  While taking Yasmin I passed out a few times, I had migraines and blackouts, and most recenlty I also became extremely constipated, gassy and unable to have bowel movements.  Again I can't say if these symptoms are a direct cause of the yasmin, they just occurred during the time I was taking Yasmine.  In fact I was pleased with Yasmin until I stopped taking it and i started to notice some very serious issues.

I am now 31 years old and I stopped taking Yasmine 3 months ago in hope to take my body to it's natural state and hopefully get pregnant.  What a NIGHTMARE it has been since I stopped yasmine!!!  The first month my period was 38 days late and I thought I was pregnant.  I was extremely tired, nausaous, moody and bloated.  Since I have gained weight (I'm too afaid to go on the scale, but my clothes don't it and everyday they are getting tighter.  Honestly I would say I have gained about 15 pounds), as soon as I started to see a little weight gain I began to watch even more closely and make sure I maintained a good amount of exercise and healthy diet to offset any weight issues....however it isn't helping and I feel like I am getting bigger everyday especially in my abdomen and thighs. Not to mention my breasts and butt are swelling more and more everyday.  In addition, I having a lot of water retention in my feet and hands as well as this red rash like swelling in my big toe after I am standing for a bit.  I am also having eposodic blotchiness in my arms, hards, legs and feet coupled with feeling extremely cold at times.  At other times I am having hot flashes.

Can anyone tell me how long I can expect to have these symptoms?  Does anyone know anyway to counteract these symptoms.

I am trying to be patient, but this is extremely frustrating and is making me more depressed.  I am a healthy person and all I want is for my body tp go back to normal.  I welcome any suggestions or feedback.

Thank you.

I have been on Yasmin for about three months now and I honestly have felt a slight but not significant change. Sometimes i have increased appetite other times im not hungry. My breast feel a bit swollen (looking foward to an increase cup size). I have always been kinda moody though so I am not sure if its a side effect from Yasmin. My weight seems to be stable but I exercise 3 times weekly.

My skin is gorgeous though and my hair nice and shiny so far. I orignally took yasmin for  mild idopathic huritism in conjuction with laser hair removal on areas such as chin so I don't understand how come my hair on my head is shiny and seems to be growing longer even though its was suppose to decrease hair growth than before but no complaints here.

Besides a bit of tummy aches for 2-3 days around the time I stop to menstrate and occasional nausea I haven't had an major issues.
