Yasmin Birth Control Pill - Questions about side effects when stopping

Hello,

I have been on Yasmin for 6 months.  I have stopped because my husband and I are considering having another baby.

Well, I decided to search for some info. in regards to stopping yasmin and came across a message forum.  (not this one)

Okay, now, my concern is the effcts after STOPPING yasmin.
I understand that all bc pills are different and so are we women as far as side effects go.  I have read postings about women who stopped taking yasmin and have experienced the following:

- anxiety, panic attacks, heart palpitations and fluttering
- depression
- excessive weight gain
- hair loss

*I already have a prob. with depression, anxiety and panic attacks, so I am currently on medication.  (Will be weaned off if not good during the pregnancy - just wanted you to know I am thinking it all through:)

*It is one thing to gain maybe 5 lbs. or to gain weight when pregnant.  I have been pregnant before and understand weight gain comes with this.  LOL  HOWEVER, my concern is mainly the emotional / mental side effects after stopping yasmin, as well as excessive weight gain after stopping.  (while not pregnant)

Has anyone either Experienced these side effects after stopping yasmin OR known of anyone who has or know anything about these effects.  I am guessing they are caused from the drop in the hormone levels.  Also, I have heard about primrose oil and flaxseed oil being good to regulate hormones or help PMS symptoms.  (I was mainly on yasmin for PMS symptoms / moods and to regulate my periods)

Thank you!

omg im so glad ive found this site seriously. I am 25 and im having so many of the problems that you are all having, most of which i have never put down the the pill being the problem. I was on cilest at the age of 16 but it made me ill so i switched to mercilon, then at 19yrs old i got an ulcer on my cervix and had to have cryo cautery treatment, then i was switched to yasmin, since then i have no sex drive atall, i can honestly say i hate sex, its painful, hurts, burns, im dry all the time, i have a constant discharge that no one can explain, been checked at gum clinic, have no infections or stds etc. I am moody and short tempered, emotional over nothing, sore breasts all the time. I stopped the pill at 20yrs old, im 25 now to see what would happen and i got the spots on my face chest arms and back and also a grow spurt in facial hair so i hopped straight back on the pill, after reading all your comments im coming off it again this month and i will try to get on with the acne issues etc. So glad i found this site, thanks to everyone for their honest accounts x

I stopped taking Yaz about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have very dry skin so have never had problems with break outs, acne, etc. And have noticed no difference in my skin since stopping the pill. I realize now how short of patience I was and my libido was NON EXISTENT. In fact, it almost made me sick to think about sex. Now my sex drive is back to normal. Yay! We are thinking about having another baby. Since being off, I was depressed for about a week but that is gone now. But now I notice I am bloated, gained about 5 lbs, breasts are swollen and sore, and have lower abdominal cramps. If I didn't know better, I'd think I was pregnant. But, as I read these posts it sounds like these are pretty common side effects from stopping Yaz. I have worked so hard to lose weight, and exercise regularly so that is the most frustrating of all the side effects. Haven't seen any responses as to how long it's taking people to lose the weight?

Hey, I'm 21 and I've been on Yasmine for about 3 months now. I went on Yasmine initiually to clear up my acne, and so far it's doing it's job. At first it got worse, but after about 2 months it started clearing up. Not only is my acne going away, but my skin is smooth and alot of facial hair has fallen out without growing back as fast as before. I have not gained any weight whatsoever, no hair loss and to be honest, my breats have gotten 1 cup sizer bigger. My periods used to be about 8 days heavy flow and awful cramping, I now only have my period for 4 days and I've never since I was a young girl worn a regular tampon until now. I was paranoid to take Yasmine before I started it, I really hesitated at first because of the all the negative feeback, but you can't really go by what other women have experienced because we are all different. Dont be afraid to try it, if you start experiencing unusual side effects then you will know you need to switch, but if you dont try you will never know. Hope this helped you out :)

i have been to the doctors today regarding severve pain and other symptoms, my doctors believes it may be endometriosis but before refering me to a gynecologist she gave me Yasmin pill and i have to take it for 4mths without a break to see if it stops the pains and other symptoms. After reading all of the above posts i am now really frightened to take it, i am only 23 and do not want hair loss, spots etc... i have always been lucky to never get spots but i am scared i will get them now, i have taken other pills in the past which havent affected my skin. IS THERE ANYONE WHO HASNT EXPERIENCED BREAK OUTS TO SKIN OR OTHER SYMPTOMS WITH THIS PILL???????? Please let me know as i am due to start taking is next week!!

I have been on Yasmin pill since about 2 years now. i have never been on any form of BC before but the only reason i started the pill was because I had PMDD which was affectin my life in so many ways that i couldnt take it anymore,it was beyond normal. Prior to starting the pill i have never had food cravings nor acne problems nor hair loss...EVER!!! Now 2 years being on birth contrl i have gained so much weight my hair is falling like crazy...beyond normal. My sex drive is gone the only time i feel like actually sexualy active is the period of few days when im not on the pill. My PMDD was regulated my periods were regulated but weight gain and hair loss is soooo depressing me that i have no idea what to  do & I am scared that PMDD will come back as well. Now after reading these post I am also scared that i might break out//i never in my life had acne// but yeah the BC is also causing low Thyroid which results in weght gain & hair loss.I dont even wnat to talk to doctors which i dont trust much anyway...so maybe I should just get off the pill and see what happens. I was never needing any Pills to control my life or anything but the PMDD that i had was really bad and this stupid pill regulated that but now i donno whats gonna happen. ohhhh damn it

Thanks for posting this information.

I have been on a contraceptive pill of one form or another since I was 16 (14 years ago). I have been on oral contraceptives as well as a long period or 6 years on implanon. The last pill I had was Yasmine.

I am recently married and got a virus which meant my pill was not staying down. I decided to stop my pill mid pack as my body had not been absorbing it anyway and we want to try to conceive.

Whilst on Yasmin I noticed vaginal dryness, decrease in sexual appetite, increased urinary tract infections and a general disinterest in things I had enjoyed.

Since coming off the pill almost 4 weeks ago I had a withdrawal bleed for 4 days (about 1 week after stopping) and now I have a range of symptoms similar to others on here.

* food cravings which I do not normally have
* bloating
* gass
* Intense lower abdominal pain
* back pain
* nausea
* sore nipples
* general low mood
* spots

It is frustrating as many of these symptoms are difficult to live with. However, I am happy to report that my sex drive has returned and there is no sign of a dreaded UTI so it isn't all bad! I am looking forward to my body returning to normal after so long on contraceptives.
