Yaz and side effects and benefits

I was told that Yaz is a new birth control pill.  I am used to 7 days of placebo pills rather than only 4.  Is Yaz's concentration any different from the common birth control pills? Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills?  What are the side effects?  What are the benefits?  Has FDA approved?  Where i can search more about Yaz?  Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy?  Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills.  is that true?

43- never had any problems before but was starting to have peri-menapausal hormone changes over the last year, so my dr recommended yaz.  She said she was on it an 'LOVED it, couldn't live without it.'
The first week was horrible.  Had ZERO energy, severe strange headaches, mild but scary pain and tenderness in fem. organ area.  Anxiety and racing negative thoughts at night especially.  I called the dr and asked for something else because this pill was definitely not working for me.  She was insistent that this was an adjustment period and I should give it the 3mths if I could.  I was really shocked that she was not surprised at my symptoms and horrible reaction.  But then.. I was pleasantly surprised that the next day was actually MUCH better, and within a couple of days I was feeling really good.  And by the end of the month I had to admit my original complaints with the peri-menapausal stuff seemed to be nearly gone.  But I had a couple of serious headaches that were crazy painful and different than any I had had before.  It was a severe pain mostly in the back left side of my head.  I also had a strange sinus infection during the month which I have not had a sinus anything in over 15 years.  So I thought perhaps the strange headaches were just related to this strange sinus problem and not the pills.  I had about decided that I was going to be fine on yaz.

I just had my 2nd period cycle (and the lighter shorter periods are a nice bonus) but I noticed while on the period that I was VERY anxious and the depression was very scary.  I was actually really looking forward to taking my first pill as soon as possible and getting back on my yaz.  I thought.. now I see why she loves them, it's a little scary to be off them now!  So I took the first pill of my 3rd pack and BAM my sinuses started draining that evening again.  The next day I took the second pill and the severe headache was back.  It took a ridiculous amount of drugs to finally get rid of the headache.  Then I knew.. these yaz pills were the source of both the sinus problem and the headaches I had been having for sure.  I did some research on how the pills actually work to keep you from getting pregnant.  One thing they do is 'thicken' the cervix or something like that which made me think.. yeah.. that's not all its thickening.  My previously healthy sinuses are drying out and having problems!  I wonder what else that 'thickening' is doing to my moisture dependent body?
Soooo...
after day two of pack #3.. I am done with yaz.  But now scared to death of what I am in for considering way I was just feeling just 3 days ago with the hormone crash that had me desperate to get the hormone back in my body.  I wish I had never taken the fist pill or continued to try to make it work.  Now I have to worry about this shock to my system on top of the mild peri-menapause I was already experiencing before I did this too it.  I hope it does not leave me worse off than I was prior to putting my hormones through a roller coaster.  Personally, would not recommend them to anyone my age as a hormone replacement therapy!

I am so thankful to find this site. I have been on YAZ since December 2007 and have experienced so many of the same symptoms. I have a friend who told me her Doc took her off YAZ because she developed DVT. This peeked my interest because I have been experiencing tingling and numbness in my legs and feet for the last year. I went to my Gyn a few months ago because i have been experiencing severe abdominal pain, he said it  was nothing but I insisted on having an ultrasound done. The results were negative, I thought I was crazy. A few weeks ago I experienced a pain and tightness in my head and face that frightened me, last week my chest became so tight I thought I was experiencing a heart attack, and I won't mention the 25lb. weight gain and the -0 sex drive. I just called my GYN we got to make a change!

I have been on it for 2  years and it took away my cramp pain by 80%! I am so happy about that, and my face is totally clear from horrible acne! But it took 9 months to clear up, so hang in there if that is your reason. It really really works for severe acne. I did get depressed and took a natural approach like Sam E product 1xday. I am so much better now even after one dose of it. My periods are very light and about 4 days also. I like this pill. I tried many different kinds in my life, I am almost 30 and hope to be  on it for a long time!

I just recently stopped taking Yaz, and I had the same problem for a year!  It always felt like I had a sinus infection, and I ahve sinus problems so I always assumed it was a sinus infection!  Wrong!!  The doctor's just kept telling me I had a cold and caught it just in time.  No medicines helped!  I was always stuffy, blowing my nose, clearing my throat, it was terrible. Then I was told it was allergies.  It was Yaz!  It affected my breathing as well.  Good luck to you, you aren't alone!  This pill is crazy!

I have been on the Yaz pill for over 2 years. i started taking it when i was 18 years old (i am now 20 going to be 21 in august). for the first 2 years i was prefectly fine. i lost 30 pounds, my face started to clear up. my PMDD symptoms were almost not there anymore. but a couple of months back i started to have severe depression, i started having suicidal thoughts, i diddnt want to get out of the house. i started gaining weight rapidly. i gained all my weight back now, and also i have been having some bad pains in my lower stomach (Overies) i have friequent headaches. i also noticed that my periods are starting to be very light, ill be on my period for a day or two!. it used to be 4 days!. my sex drive is slowly starting to lower aswell, my husband does not mind. but he is worried that yaz is making me sick. what do you think i should do?, am i overreacting? or should i stop taking yaz?. yaz is the only Birth control pill i have ever taken.

if someone could help please e-mail me at.

I have been on yaz for about a year now, I have also suffered from lack of a sex drive and i just recently noticed that I have been having post nasal drip, and symptoms of a sinus infection for the past two months.  I was treated with medication for a sinus infection but am still suffering with symptoms.  I have read that yaz can cause upper respiratory problems, I am wondering if it may be the cause, and if anyone else has had this problem? If so, I think it may be time to get off yaz.
Thanks for your feedback!
