Yeast Infection, Monistat 1 Day Too Strong, Still Having Problems... Need Advice

I have never had yeast infections until now. A few months ago I thought I was having a reaction to the new pads I was using. My vagina was swollen and red, slightly itchy; no discharge the second day after my period started.  After days of suffering, I went to the Dr. who said it probably was the pads.  He said he didn't see any yeast but took a culture just to be sure. They called and said I had a VERY bad yeast infection.  This time I started feeling similar to the last time. By day 3 I was swollen and red again with mild itching and a white/clear stretchy discharge. I have been with a new partner since Nov. 2005 and these problems have started since then. I seem to be irritated down there almost always after we have sex. Do you think maybe it's his body chemistry that isn't mixing well with my "inside"? I had a refill for a Diflucan 150mg so I called it in and took it [on day 3 after symptoms started and already had gotten bad]. Me being impatient decided to go to the drug store the next day and get an over the counter yeast product as well [1st time using]. I bought the Monistat 1 ovule.  The next morning I was extremely red and raw looking, swollen and miserable. The stuff looked like glue up there. It stayed extremely red and swollen for a good two days. By day 3 is seemed slightly better, but I still feel so irritated down there. There looks like a white film on the inside of my labia. The skin still looks raw; almost like that Monistat ate the top layer of skin. Day 5 today. Slight itch. No swelling but still looks raw with white film. We are both neg for STD'S.

I am so sad for all of you suffering women. I know the pain. I did the monistat 1 thinking that it would be the end of my problems but i was completely wrong. about an hour after inserting it I got a horrific burning and itching sensation. I looked online to see if this was normal only to find this blog. I'm glad I did because three comments later I was in the bathroom pushing his stuff out even removing the excess with my fingers. So glad i took it out before things got worse. I rinsed out the area with cold water and am feeling a lot better, not completely comfortable but a whole lot better. Best of luck to all of you and I'm glad this was here to help me. Stay strong ladies, it's not easy being a woman. Oh yeah and monistat is going to hear it from me. They should have warnings about this on the box.

I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one who has had horrible results from dealing with the 1-day Monistat. Sadly, it used to work, but I've noticed problems as mentioned in posts in the last couple of times I've used it.

I was wondering about the 7-day ones though, or just the ones that you use 'every day' ... are there set times to use them? The reason I wonder is that I work odd shifts ... it is not possible for me to use them at the same time each day, and there would be one day I would prolly skip it because I don't sleep more than a couple of hours.

It is so reassuring to hear all this! I had a bad sinus infection so they gave me amoxicillan to treat it. Low and behold I start to feel a yeast infection coming on bc they always occur after I take that antibiotic. I wanted to get it over with and took monistat 1 day and had to call into my doctor bc I was in so much pain. After taking that med I have found my clitoris and opening to my vagina especially (even though the lips hurt too) that I am in constant pain. I can't even go to the bathroom without it hurting me! Has anyone experienced that? The dr said there was definitely bacteria but couldn't find any yeast, but unfortunately I'm on my period which doesn't make it easy to see. I'm praying to God I don't have an std or something worse. Does anyone else experience this awful sharp pain on their clitoris or anything along those lines?

I used a generic brand of Monistat 1 and experienced the WORST burning of my life and woke up in the middle of the night with the most intense itching.  I have had yeast infections in the past and have always used three days or 7 days, but decided to use the 1 day because I was leaving for a snowboarding trip the next day.  Rarely do I not live by my "haste makes waste" motto.  I endured the pain for a day and a half of christmas shopping, and holiday parties with my "no pain no gain attitude" thinking the medicine was doing its job. My vagina burned so badly, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry- If it weren't for this site, I would have lost it.  Reading someone's post advice I went to the store and got a mild vinegar and water douche.   I have never douched before, but was at the point where I had to get it out any way possible.  The second I started the douche, all of the medicine came out and I immediately felt better.  Later that evening I started the 7 day treatment and am currently on day 4 and feeling a lot better.  I still have itching off and on but none of the intense burning as before.

Ladies, please, please, please take this medicine out, if you can even call it "medicine".  I can only imagine what I did to my vagina during those two days.  Never again will I use a 1 day treatment.  The level of medicine is extremely high and too concentrated.

Thank you to the posts before, like I said, I would have been at a loss to what was going on.
