Yeast infection and herpes?

This is more of a question to relieve the time I have to wait before getting my test results back.  I recently, for the last half year, have been getting really bad itching and burning accompanied by a couple of tears or cuts in my skin around the entry of the vagina and where there is bad itching.  Finally, a week ago the itching and tears came back so I went to the gyno.  It turned out I had a bad yeast infection but she also wanted to test me for herpes.  I recieved a blood test and culture of the cuts.  She said she would be very surprised if the cuts were genital herpes since it was very difficult to culture the tears.  I'm really nervous waiting for my test results.  I just wanted to know if any one has ever gotten tears in their skin from yeast infections.  That doesn't seem like a classic symptom of yeast infections, but I know everyone is different.  Also, I have heard that if you have Type 1 or 2 herpes on your mouth you can't spread that strain to your vagina or vice versa.  I forgot to ask my gno if this is true since I have gotten cold sores before and I'm worried I could have spread it to my genital area and that is what the cuts are.  I just wanted to see if anyone has had tears from yeast infections, or I could have both a yeast infection and herpes.  I'm very nervous and I can't concentrate on my school work, so any input would be helpful.  Thank you!

Hi,
This is to clear up some misconceptions.  You absolutely CAN transmit herpes from your mouth to your genitals.  It used to be that Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2 could only infect the mouth and genitals respectively.  In more recent years however, the viruses have mutated to allow both to infect either the mouth or genitals interchangeably.  Someone with oral herpes (cold sores) can transfer the virus to her own genitals via her hands, etc.  This is called cross contamination.  In the same way that someone can "give themselves" genital herpes by transferring the virus from mouth to genitals, a person with oral herpes can also give a partner genital herpes through oral sex (whether they are broken out or not).
Herpes (in both locations) is unfortunately, a really common virus and most people have been exposed to at some point, whether they ever show symptoms or not.  It's important to note that someone can be exposed to the virus and not show symptoms until years later (or never).
Skinn, I don't at all want to freak you out.  If you're still open to advice though and are still looking for information, I would say that a cluster of small painful blisters could be caused by the herpes virus and it would be a good idea to get checked out when you next break out.  Herpes can be a tricky virus to diagnose without symptoms so your best bet is to get it looked at when the blisters are there.  It is worth noting that some people break out once and never break out again, though the virus is still present in the body.
Anyway, it is also worth mentioning that if your long-term partner has oral herpes (gets cold sores) then it wouldn't be hard for him to transmit it to you.  It's been a while since you posted your message so I'm not sure what you may have been able to find out about your symptoms since then.   IF you do end up with a positive diagnosis though, know that LOTS of people have the virus.  A diagnosis at first can be really scary and alienating but you're actually in good company.  The absolute majority of people who know they have the virus don't let it affect their quality of lives and continue on, having happy and healthy relationships, etc.
Anyway, if you feel like you want more info, etc, just post again....

two days ago, i felt this burning sensation while sitting at my desk. the same afternoon i got my period. yesterday while wiping i felt these bumps on my left vagina lip. i took the mirror thinking i was bit by something, living in the carribean,it happens. in the mirror a saw something looking like water lesions (like when you get splased by hot oil) but very small and bunched up together. they are very painful when i touch them and uncomfortable to wear pads. its the first time im seeing this, but my long time partner gets what i think is cold sores every year.
could this be herpes? Im scared!

My friend has Genital herpes and she has mentioned she gets cuts around the anus area when she gets an outbreak...She also wonders why this is happening if she was getting sores around the lips of her vagina already. The doctor informend her that since she is discharging around the same time as her outbreak, she might not be wiping from front to back and is bringing bacteria to her anus...therefore, that part gets irritated and brings on the cuts....im not sure how true that is, but My best bet to you is to ask your doctor!

So are the cuts around her anus also herpes or are you saying that they are just cuts caused by irritation?  Sorry I was a little confused.

cold sores is a different type of herpes. You can get hsv1 and get cold sores and you can get hsv2 and get genitial sores. More rarely you can get hsv1 on the genitials.

but yeah you can also get sores and stuff from bad yeast infections

Just a note,  most people that end up with herpes get it while their partner has no symptoms. People who have herpes can shed the virus at any time.

herpes can be spread, but its going to be from your partner, and that is VERY common, if your partner has a cold sore and you engage in oral sex then you will be exposed, ive never heard of type one(oral) moving to type two(genital) like the previous poster said, that would be very rare, herpes, you would be in a lot of pain, cuts are not likly herpes, you would have sores, and your doctor would be able to tell from looking at them, in most cases the doctor does the testing just for confirmation, it is verrrrry unlikely you have herpes, i hope that calms your nerves for now

You can indeed get cuts and tears from a yeast infection. In fact there are other dermatological problems that can also cause those symptoms.

Herpes can be transmitted from oral to genital, but it isn't that common.  If you don't have small blisters in a cluster than I doubt it is herpes.  Look into lichen sclerosis or just do a search for vulvar skin disorders.
