abnormal hair growth and pimples/ acne

I am a 27 y/o female and have had abnormal hair growth on my stomach and chin area the past few years. Also I have suffered from many pimples/acne on my face and other areas

Are these related to some hormonal imbalance and what can be done about them??

One other thing is that for around 5 or so years now I have had large pimple like growths under my arms that eventually burst containing a puss like substance and blood. After they have healed they leave scarring. Doctors have told me they could be removed via surgery and I have had strong antibiotics course previously to remove them but as soon as the course finished they came back

What can be done to make these go away??

hi there im 28 years old and i feel i need to share my story as well. and im also curious if all of you have had an abortion ? anyways after i had my son , within a year i gained 100 pounds rapidly. i had starting getting migraines and dizzy spells alot . i got pregnant again and ended up getting an abortion my first and last , but my problems seemed to go from bad to worse , i gained 16 more pounds and started getting acne and then i noticed the hair starting to grow on my chin it started with a few and now i can practically grow a beard, my hair on my stomach is thicker more course and i fine the hair grows at a rapid pace. i have hot flashes and irregular periods i can go 4 months without a period. my emotions are wild and my self esteem destroyed . but i somehow wonder if this might have been from the abortion ? maybe it screwed up my hormones? what you think ?

I figured out the issue with the unwanted facial hair, acne, and even worse unwanted body hair, I believe it most certainly has to do with weight gain for those of us who have fluctuations in our weight over the years, it is only common sense that this be the main reason. I am also 25 years old and our ages range around the same. I had noticed, oddly enough that almost immediately when I'd lose weight, the hair and pimples would go away very quickly. But don't expect a magic pill because there isn't one unfortunately. It takes exercising and actually EATING, PLEASE do not think the less you eat, the more you lose because that most certainly is not the case, the more you starve your body, the more it will store fats to avoid starvation. Your body can act on its very own defenses sometimes so whatever you do, EAT! But make sure  you eat healthy and usually when people tell you this, it can be confusing. Honestly lots of greens. Breakfast, Lunch, snack, Dinner. But make sure that your meals are healthy. Don't stuff yourself once or twice a day because that was actually my issue and I'm still struggling with that. But the best you can do to stop your hormonal imbalances is to set your body straight and it won't attack you anymore if that makes any sense lol. Good luck, everyone and remember to eat.

This is crazy that so many women have the same issue. I thought i was weird. its nice to know that so many women have the same problems. I am 24 and have hair growth on my chin and severe acne that didnt start until a few years ago. when i was 17 i had several cysts on my ovaries most of which went away, but at the age of 22 (about a year after i started getting the facial hair and acne) i had to have surgery and have an ovary removed because of a softball sized tumer on my left ovary. My docter didnt say whether or not the tumor and ovary disfunction were related to the hair growth and acne but i think it is. I think it is an inbalance in hormones. I am not a docter or anything but i thought the reproductive system is what controls the hormones in women. Please dont let my story scare you my docter said i was his youngest patient to have an ovary removed, but suggest having an ultrasound done to check for cysts or growths, just to be on the safe side. thank yal for sharing your stories. it makes me feel better to know i am not the only one.

sooo  after looking for answers myself...  I have felt the need to share my story as well...  at age 16 I was told that i would never have children and was placed on birthcontrol to regulate my periods.  I stayed on birthcontrol for years..  until after i was married at age 21..  when my husband and i decided to attempt to have children and seek professional help.  we spent well over $10,000.00 in fertillity specialist and injections and such.  nothing...    my husband and i seperated...8 months later i was pregnant..  go figure..  shortly after the birth of my daughter i noticed that i had some unwanted hair growth on my chin area...  i was grossed out and freaked out to say the least...  I went to an endocrinologist to rule out any glandual tumors and also cushings disease...  for years I could not get answer to what was causing this (hair growth issue, diabetis, weight gain, and various other issues)  finally after tryin for another baby, i was diagnosed with PCOS disease..  all  issues are linked together, and can cause many other health problems...  my newest to the list is a form of liver disease, and panic attacks.. yay!!  what fun...  I'm told that i need to loose weight and that my chances of concieving another baby would greatly improve...  hello...  i run 2miles a day and eat practically nothing....  sooo  i dont know how they expect that to happen...  i just dont know...  soooo  ive been tracking everything in a callendar... and hopefully I will get pregnant...  but going back to the subject at hand...  i had been having issues with the hair on my face getting worse lately, and then suddenly the hair decreased within the past couple of days... and I'm late :)  im thinking that this could be a good thing... since its hormonal... and i didnt have this hair growth problem while i was pregnant with my daughter..  hmmmm  guess we will just see..  :)  good luck to ya

Okay I too have problems with extreme embarrassing hair growth. I have hair on my chin a couple patches on my neck some on my stomach my chest and long black hairs on the top of my arms near the shoulders. It first started about 6 years ago with hairs on my chest coming in thick and dark ( at which time i was not overweight). It then went to my hair on my stomach, lke i have the trail. Next i noticed a couple hairs on my chin and tried waxing which now i have a lot and shave a lot. I tried lazer on my chest, it didnt do anything. Rescently right before i got pregnant i started hair on my neck and also started electrolisis, then i got pregnant and had to stop it. And now i am getting long black hairs on my arms. Oh yeah and sometime in between i had extreme growth on the back too.....   In the past i have been told i have a cyst on my ovary, i dont know if that meens i would have pcos, I asked to be tested and they told i didnt have it, but i dont know. I am now very overweight. I also have had irregular periods (well i did before i got pregnant) for a good 5 years. It did take me a long time to get pregnant. The new patch of hair on my arm seems to be around what i want to say might be eczema, ive never been to a dermatoligist and honestly dont mention things like that to my doctor. I am hoping to start back the electrolisis and finally get rid of this problem!

I have the same thing as all you girls!!! When I lived with my parents I had beautiful skin and a flat belly with hair in all the correct places, then I got married to my highschool sweetheart and it seemed like overnight I had facial hair, belly hair, and i gained 90 lbs in a year! I am now approaching my 30th bday and in the last year I have lost 55 lbs and even though that should make me feel better I still have the hair everywhere and the acne seems to be getting worse with painful ingrown hairs and weird moles and skin tags. I had laser treatments done but they did not help. Everytime I go to the doctor they seem to think I am crazy and never have any helpful advice. I have been on so many meds it's rediculous! And none have helped. I have been past the point of depression with this and I have a great husband that tells me I am beautiful and it doesn't matter to him, and I appreciate that but I'm trying to get the point across that it does matter to me and over the years I have pulled away from others even him bc of the blow to my self confidence. My mom never ever cooked hamburger for dinner, she doesn't like it and we ate lots of chicken and turkey instead, well my husband thinks there is nothing better than ground hamburger and that is what my diet changed to once I was married. I have researched alot and they have said that with hormone problems it is best to stay away from red meat and dairy bc of the natural hormones that are in them. I have recently started to cut those items out and I truely feel lighter on my feet, my attitude has changed from being negative to being more outgoing and energized. I have found my stregth in God that he will continue to heal me by his grace and mercy. If He brings you to it, he bring you through it. Like I said I have been dealing with this for ten years and as you girls know there is no advice out there and even seems to be no concern to research it! There are so many woman suffering with these symptoms and my advice is to look to God for strength and start searching within yourself for the answers that will help you. I wish all of you the best and may God bless you beyond your wildest hopes and dreams!!!

Ok, ladies.. You all sound like you may have PCOS. I am 31 and have known about my condition since I was 16. I have hair issues (face, stomach, course hair on my arms/legs..), I have hardly any periods and when I do they are HEAVY, skin tags (underarm), Type 2 diabeties, and yes.. I am overweight. My list could on. What you need to know is that there are different types of PCOS. Look into it and find out where you fit in. Most IMPORTANT- ask your doctor/ ob-gyn/ endocrine doctor is they believe there is such a thing as PCOS. A lot of them do not even admit there is a condition called such! Educate yourselves. Also, you do not have to have cyst on your overies all of the time. They CAN AND WILL come and go. An ultrasound may not catch them at the time... Good Luck Ladies! I hope this helped!

I have no idea if this is related, but to me I have noticed a few common themes here, which is weight gain and weight loss, have not researched into my theory too much. All I know is through my own research and life experience, I know that ANYBODY who goes through abnormal weight changes and fluctuations, especially sudden weight loss, mess up many things in their bodies especially the hair issue. You look at patients with eating disorders who gain weight or  weight loss suddenly for example and they have long hairs suddenly growing all over their bodies, I believe it is a mechanism the body does when it is starved or suddenly loses a lot of weight to keep it warm. Am not sure for weight gain however. I have heard this will go away over time IF you stabilize your weight and live healthily.
Anyway, I personally have had an eating disorder for many years, which means the cause of my hair issues are because of extreme weight fluctuations, up and down, I have always noticed growing strange white hairs all over my body before, my arm airs abnormally long, and I made the mistake of shaving my arms so its horrible. But recently I started noticing weird patches on my face that are growing white hair and I don’t know if its related or not. Is there a name for those?
So if weight fluctuation sounds like you, and you have in the past, recent past, or present are going up and down in your weight quite a bit, this COULD be a reason why you have body hair where it should not be. The only way I know to solve that, although it can be solved, is to keep your weight in a steady healthy place - supposedly it takes a long while for the hairs to disappear but they do when you are stabilized.
I am currently researching ways to be rid of unwanted hairs excluding shaving and waxing.

I have this same problem as well.
I have have been dealing with this since i was 12 years old.
It's not fun I cannot seem to find a way to treat it.
I suffered without anything to do until I saw a doctor who gave me antibiotics until I was 13 years old, he then put me on Accutane. This got rid of my acne and the cysts. =] !! But I now suffer from abnormal hair growth. I'm not too sure if it is from the accutane or if it is something going along with the acne and bumps. It's horrible to go through this at a young age. No one knew what it was (and still dont). One doctor even thought it all started from a bump in my ear, so he cut it out. Ouch! it was horrible. Some doctors tell me it is genetic. I know it's not. It is really bad. Now that I'm 17 I know how to deal with it. But to know what is wrong would be wonderful.

although waxing causes ingrown hairs it doesnt tend to on the face. i wax my face and although it doesnt help acne and you will come out very spotty the first couple of days but your hair growth stays the same. i found that when i shaved the hair comes back more and thicker. As for hair on the neck and also back i bleach it although i know its not a permanent solution it does help. Also instead of shaving my stomach i have started to bleach it and wax away the darker hairs although the hair is still visible just blonder it looks better than being dark hair.i dont want to make the mistake of starting to remove any other hair in fear that it grows back worse

about the weight loss its strange but i lost an extremely large amount of weight in very little time and it was only after this i realised i had this hair growth/acne problem.

thank you, its comforting to know i am not the only one with this problem.

i have the same hair problems, stomach and chin to neck. i've been doing laser treatments, however, i also have had little to no change. acne is a problem as well. i am slightly over weight and hope that losing will improve my hair problems. i shave, which may have contributed but it's better then walking around with a beard, right? waxing or tweezing only causes ingrown hairs.

sorry for not giving medical advice. but your not alone.

i am eighteen and have also recently had these problems my face seems to be getting worse. it first started when i was about 13 or 14 i just thought it was puberty and began to shave. Now i fear that shaving might have made things worse and have since tried waxing with no or little result i dont know whether i may have a problem or have just caused this myself by shaving. I also suffer from the puss filled pimples around the armpits and groin and have acne which started around 3 years ago when i went through a rough patch of depression. I dont understand its like i just woke up one morning abnormally hairy. i dont know how it got this bad does anyone have any advice on products or tips to make this better ???

i have the same problem. i started getting facial hair and stomach hair lots of arm hair. when i was 11 or 12 around puberty when my daily headaches started. i too have a problem with acne especially on the side of my face and forhead that i never before had. my periods have always been irregualar even on bc pills. so far ortho evra has been doing well. the doctor said since it is transdermal and doesnt have to go through your system  and break down(stomach , liver etc) that the body might be taking in more hormones and regulate it. the only problem still is acne... i am going to see an endocrinologist and hopefully get some answeres

Around the age of 18 I began getting pimples. I also started growing hair on my face. It has only been getting worse and now I am 22. My doctor tested me for everything in the book. Everything is normal. Dosen't make sense. I have gained maybe 15 pounds since 18, I was considered under weight at that time. I excersize often. I am considered fit. I just do not understand why it only seems to be getting worse.

In the last 6 months I have been under going electrlosis for the hair growth and have scene little to no improvement. I have just recieved my 2nd chemical peel for acne and still have yet to see any change.

The strange thing is, I only brake out on my face. The rest of my skin seems uninfected.

Please let me know if you have learned anything from your own experiences.

Sorry to ask, but are you both overweight? even slightly???It sounds like you have PCOS and I can tell you losing even 10% of your body weight can make a huge difference. Exercise helps so much even if it's just walking. I to suffer from the cystic yucks in my armpits and even sometimes have large lumps in my groin, the hair growth and eratic periods. Boy I sound like a great catch ROFL!!! But I did join Weight Watchers and lost 30lbs and exercise at least every other day and have seen a huge improvement in hormones! The cebacous(sp) cysts have gone away and belly hair:) seems to not grow as rapidly. SO something to consider...

Just wanted to let you know that I have this same kind of hair growth on my chin and stomach. I am also 27. I also have not really a bump under my arm, but seems to be more like a hole. If i squeeze it, i do get puss and blood out of it. I figured it was just an ingrown hair or something. Don't know though. I have also, over the past couple of years had a lot more acne on my face. More than when i was a teenager. The chin hair seems to get worse and i have some hair growth on my neck as well. (Not a lot, just a patch or two)I tweeze to try to get rid of as much of it as possible. it seems to be too corse for hair removers to work well. My dr. checked for PCOS (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome) but I had no cysts so she said that wasn't it... don't know what causes it, but I do know it is annoying. just wanted to let you know that someone your age is going through the same thing, or something similar.
