Definitely try the ovcon 50. I was on the ovcon 35 after having my son. I continuously had breakthrough bleeding with that, until I got myself pregnant by accident when my son was only 4 months old. With one of the breakthrough bleedings, I ovulated. I also got my periods early, every 21 days.

I got pregnant another time on LoOvral. Same exact situation. Breakthrough bleeding, had what I thought 4 periods in a 4 week timeframe. Dr's were blaming me saying I wasn't taking the pill properly. I think after taking it for so many years, and not wanting another baby at the time I'd be very religious about it. Needless to say, I ovulated with one of those breakthrough bleedings too and got pregnant. I needed a higher dose of hormones to prevent this breakthrough bleeding. Both incidences ended in miscarriages. Something went wrong, as I kept on spotting while pregnant.

It's good that you're using a backup method. I didn't b/c I didn't think anything was really wrong and as long as I was taking the pill, I was safe. Boy was I wrong. Now there's studies saying that overweight women may need a higher dose of pill, and that our bodies sort of become immune to them. I know I changed brands many times in the last 8 or 9 years because of the breakthru bleeding.

Good luck. Let me know how things go.

I was on the BCP for 8-9 years. From what I understood, you hadn' had a period since dec, then in feb you started taking the pills? It takes one week for the full effectiveness of the pill to kick in. They tell us to use a backup method during that time as we can get pg. The bleeding might have been your period trying to come and the hormones of the pills might have interfered with something. Just keep taking the pills, and you'll probably experience this "breakthrough" bleeding for the 1st 3 months until your body adjusts to them.

What kind of pill are you on? I've have bad experiences with low dose BCP. You might want to consider going on a higher dose for awhile like ovcon 50 or something.

Good luck.

from what I get you took them when you never got your period. I did the same thing I took my birth control on a sunday that I was not the sunday after my period. I had massive cramps. If you are missing pills often or stop for more than 2 days you are supposed to stop taking them for that month and then start again on the sunday after you start your period.

your best bet is to see a doctor and get it checked out. When i first started taking birth control my doctor said my period would "go crazy" for awhile, just until the birth control could sort everything out.
