does my situation sound like ovarian cancer? Desperate for help!

I started becoming ill November 2013. . Became very air regular reading more often than not. Pain on my left ovary was so severe it sent me to the emergency room on numerous occasions. I suddenly started to gain weight. Mostly around my middle. The weight gain wouldn't stop. I've been slender my whole life even after or children. In just one year I gained more than 70 pounds and look as if I was nine months pregnant. Lots of G.I. symptoms. Weird pain in my legs and multiple episodes of chest pain. They found a hemorrhagic ovarian cyst on my left side and a complex ovarian cyst on my right side. They noted free fluid in the cul-de-sac. They found an endometrial mass. They found a small fibroid. They decided to use the watch and wait approach. After six weeks they removed three polyps from the endometrium and scraped it out. I had endometrial thickening and an enlarged uterus. The pain grew worse and worse each week. But they continued to ignore my ovaries. They denied any of my symptoms were related to my ovaries. Then they trying to tell me that my ovarian cysts were gone even though my pain continued and became worse and worse. I tried to get a consult with an oncology gynecologist that they denied my case due to insurance reasons. Finally over a year and a half later I am scheduled for a complete hysterectomy with my gynecologist at the end of this month. Reason listed chronic pelvic pain. Symptoms are so bad. Six months ago I had normal blood pressure very healthy my whole life. Now my blood pressure averages 160 over 100. I am afraid of the surgery. I don't trust all of the doctors. At my last physical examination my doctor palpated my abdomen and did a pelvic. Lo and behold she told me it could be caused from ovarian cysts and she agreed to do a total hysterectomy. She wanted to do a total hysterectomy. Any advice or similar stories and outcomes would be greatly appreciated.

My heart aches for you! I had a friend who recently went through a hysterectomy at a young age due to nearly the exact same situation. She said it was the best thing she ever did for herself! A hysterectomy is a VERY serious life decision though, and I hope you have thought through all of you options before landing on this permanent one. If anything, I would HIGHLY suggest seeking new doctors and getting second, even third, opinions before taking this giant leap. I'd see if they could prescribe you on Metformin, or a similar drug to help with the cysts. You may just be one of those women who fall into the highly unlucky category with their reproductive systems. I'm so sorry you're going through this!

Hi there.  I want to make it clear that we have no idea what is going on with you.  No one is a doctor here and a public forum does not substitute for medical care.  I have a mother in law who suffered and died from ovarian cancer.  It's a wicked cancer.  The issue is that all signs of it are subtle and seem gastrointestinal related until it is in final stages.  That is when it is typically diagnosed.  Bathroom issues, bloating, yes, some weight gain in the middle, stomach, abdominal issues, etc. are early symptoms.

Most young women do not get ovarian cancer, remember that.  But if you fear that your symptoms are related to this, you should see your doctor to discuss.

Hysterectomy does not solve the issue of ovarian cancer.  It is a seeding type of cancer and the seeds for my mother in law were no where near her uterus but rather on her omentum.  That is a covering that hangs down from the stomach.  NOT removed in a hysterectomy.

A blood test called a CA125 is one of the key tests used to indicate if someone has ovarian cancer.

I, in all honesty, would be much more concerned about your blood pressure.  Your bottom number is significantly elevated and that is dangerous.

good luck

Thank you so much for Your reply. The hysterectomy is a second opinion of a gynecologist. I have seen primary care Dr, a cardiologist,a pain management specialist, an internal med Dr, my nephrologist for my previous kidney issues, a psychologist who agrees something needs to be done soon. I feel like this is my only option to get them to go in and find out what is going on. It's been well over a year and these problems just continue getting worse. I am afraid that if I continue seeking more opinions and waiting, that whatever is going on inside is going to take my life. My resting blood pressure today was 130/110. Also, I don't have the best insurance which makes the search even more challenging and as you probably know, the only way that they can truly find out if it is ovarian cancer is surgically. I hope and pray that it is not OC, but I feel like I would be taking a bigger risk by continuing to wait while it might be spreading. I have four children ages 18 to 23 and two granddaughters ages 6 and just two months old. My children are very worried but they are counting on me to get better and they have never seen me this ill before because I have been slender, fit, and healthy my whole life. I just don't know what else to do. I look like I am in my third trimester of pregnancy yet I am not even pregnant.
