groin bump

I went to the doctor about a bump in the groin area, i have had it about three months. It started out small and grew larger. My doctor said that i got an infection from shaving.  I have never cut myself, and it never pussed, it is under the skin. they gave me antibiotics, and I took them ( they said it was the strongest that they could have given me) it has been three weeks now and nothing has changed. I cant wear my jeans it hurts to waer them, pantyhose hurts it puts pressure on it.  I just dont know how you can get an infection when there was nothing that surfaced it is all under skin.... help. It also shoots pain every now and then, it feels like someone is squeezing it. But just to touch it does not hurt  I go back to doc on Monday....not sure if she knows what she is talking about....$250.00 later

" IODINE TINCTURE " in the first aid area in the drugstore is the answer...It shrunk my bump overnight..I tried everything in the drugstore and this is the only thing that worked..I also took a vitmin C pill every 8 hours ..I am so happy for myself !

Nurse rain^ is totally right. I've had this problem
And it does just kinda get to a point where it oozes on its own an I helped it a little. Really gross but felt so much better. However, as a med student I would hate for any of these cases to be something more than a cyst and over looked. It never hurts to just double check with ur doc. Even a free clinic can catch things more serious. Good luck to you all I know it's painful

I have been experiencing the same as most of the previous posts.
First lump in my groin area in 2004 was removed after 8 weeks on different anti biotics.
Then lo and behold to the left of my scar tissue another lump has arisen.
Just back from the hospital referral today after having spent the last five weeks on three types of antibiotics to reduce the lump from the size of my entire thumb down to the size of a lemon pip.
My diagnosis is Sebaceous Trichofolluiculmona. in english ( a wee bengin tumour)  and the prognosis is good too, a simple excision of the area under a local and I will be back on my feet in a day.
But if you are in any doubt please see your GP.

HI, I have noticed that I have a lump in my groin area right in the fold of my leg and vagina. It is almost in the shape of a varacose vein but it feels hard to the touch and and it is quite tender and will hurt if I press on it.  And once in a while it will itch me and when I scrtach it,  OH BOY!  it hurts!!!
I'm just waiting to get it checked out by my doctor but thought someone could give me an idea of what they think it could be...Cheers!

I just started shaving down there, and two days agos it hurt horrible to go to the bathroom. I found what appears to be boils on either side of my vigina.  Do I use the recommended processure above?  Could it possible a sign of an STD?

I totally agree with NurseRain. And just because it hasn't surfaced, doesn't mean it isn't an infection. Even pimples are tiny infections. Ever had one that hurt like a bugger but didn't form a head? Same sort of thing, but WAY worse, I know. The HOT wash cloth thing works. But do try to wear loose clothing until you are healed up as tight jeans or pants will make it hurt worse. Antibiotics are not a cure all. And if it is an ingrown hair, the source of the problem has to be removed before the infection will go away. When it does drain, and it will, you may find one single hair. After you have cleaned it completely, you can also use Neosporin which will help in the healing process. If for some reason it doesn't drain on its own, I suggest you see a Dermatologist. They specialize in these conditions and know better how to treat them. They will also be more likely to have samples in the office and if you explain that you are uninsured, he may give you samples for any scripts which will save you some money.
Good Luck and I hope you get this resolved soon. I know how painful it is for you.

It could be a  deep boil, which are not fun, I know. If so, try hot compresses (hot washcloth on area til cool, repeat, then again) twice a day. That will "loosen it up" and gross as it sounds it should drain itself. You have to be pretty carefull with boils near lymphnodes (such as arms and groin) because the infection (pus) can quickly get into your bloodstream. If you can pop it in one try, do. If not leave it to pop on its own. It could be an ingrown hair, also painful. I would say same procedure as above. If you can see the ingrown hair you could try to tweeze it out. If you open the area, clean it well with peroxide or *ouch* rubbing alcohol. If it persists, see your doc. They might have to drain it. Sorry if this is gross, but as a nurse I see stuff like this every day.
