has anyone heard of the drug Provera

My OBGYN prescribed Provera- which is a hormone of progesterine- for me 3 days ago because my period would not stop I was bleeding for 20 days, never had bleed that long. My husband and I are trying to have a baby and I am concerned about continuing this medication. My obgyn told me to take it 2 times a day for 14 days and it would stop my bleeding then I would get my period on the 15 day. I know taking this medication will not allow me to get pregnant while on it. My doctor told me it would be resetting my system but I'm not too sure about this drug. The side effects scare me- they state you can develop dark pachetts on your face, which is happening and also I am breaking out into a rash all over my body. I dont want to do anything that would hinder my chance in getting pregnant but I feel I should stop taking this medication, my husband on the other hand is telling me to follow the doctors orders- he really wants a baby too. My obgyn is very clear that we are trying to conceive, that is the reason I started seeing her in the first place and she assures me there is no reason why I would not be able to get pregnant after showing her my pelvic ultra sound results. I just do not feel right with this medication and on the label it states do not take if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Can someone please give me their opinion. I am so confused and worried. I dont know if I should stop the medication or not. Any opionion would be greatly appreciated. thanks

when I took provera I took 5mg for 5 days and then 3-4 days after my last pill I would get af. Then I took 50mg of clomid on cd 2-6, I would then in turn ovulate around cd 14. I hope everyone get's their BFP soon!!

I'm so glad I'm not alone, and to hear that other people are taking this medication when TTC and even getting pregnant makes me so hopeful. Best of wishes to you all.

yes, i took provera in march, as i had not had a period since early december. i took it for 5 days, and 5 days after that, i got my af. now i have gone back to the doc, and i'm all set and ready to TTC. it really doesn't damage your changes of getting pg...so i'm keeping my fingers crossed, and i'm really hoping to get my BFP soon! good luck and baby dust to all! :)

You said you were in your 3 days.  Three days of taking provera or three days after taking it.  While taking Provera it will not cause you to have a period, when you stop, usually 2-3 days after you will have a period. Ive heard some people say theres started 5 days after.

hi ladies, i skipped my period for 2 months ,all my urine test and blood test was negative, and just went back to the obgyne last monday ,he gave me provera to start my period, he gave me 10mg iam taking it for 10 days, now in my 3 days, i havent got my AF yet, but the doctor told me once i get PERIOD, i will call him and after the period he will give me clomid 100 mg,because i used to take clomid but i quit last feb, i started clomid dec last year, so my period messed up because i quit and i didnt refill it again,so then the doctor told me 100mg of clomid for 4 months then if i dont get pregnant he will give me 200mg, then if i dont get pregnant ,he recommend me to go for insemination or ivf, i would do it i want to have a kid soooo bad, i dont care about the pain,, WELL GOD BLESS YOU ALL

I took provera in October (I hadn't had af since March), then again in November, then again in March. Now I am 5 weeks pregnant. I had to take provera to jump-start af so that I could take clomid. I don't ovulate on my own so I need to take provera to get af and then clomid to ovulate. If I ovulate, then I get af on my own. The only side effect I had when I took provera was bad cramps during af but they were only for the first 2 days and then I was ok.

I took Provera in Dec 05 and Jan 06 and those are the only two periods Ive had since Aug 05.  I am now 14 weeks pregnant.  Provera will not hurt you if you are pregnant. It use to be used as a pregnancy test.  If you took it and got a period then you werent pregnant and if you took it and didnt get a period then you were pregnant.  Im not sure about using it to stop a period....I used it to get a period both times.  I took 10mg for 5 days and then on the 7th ot 8th  I got a period.  Talk to your pharmacist about the medication in you want a different opinion other than your dr's.  Best of Luck!
