hypothyroidism missed period clear white discharge

So i have hypothyroidism i found out last year. i never get my period on time, its been getting worse as the months go on. I am twenty one and 4 months ago took a pregnancy test after missing it for almost 2 months. it came up positive, i took and have always taken my thyroid medication because i knew the risks of it flaring up while pregnant. i went to the doctor a month and a half later, and they said i was not pregnant. however, i "felt pregnant" according to the doctor during the pelvic exam. i was given medicine to start a period, and after 3 weeks of waiting for it to come naturally i took the medicine to start my menstrual cycle. since that happened, i have gotten my period, but same as always it is always a week or 2 late. i have now been waiting a whole month for it and still nothing. i would normally brush it off, but the other day i felt a rush of something coming out of me, and i did not think it was my period because i felt nothing to lead me to that suspicion. i went to the bathroom and it was clear white discharge. more than normal. didn't think anything of that either but then i ordered take out and for some reason it just smelled like something foul like urine, but everyone else said i was just crazy and it smelled and tasted good. i still could not stomach myself to eat it. i went to work and got a whiff of fish, which i love, and almost vomited from the smell. if i didn't have hypothyroidism i would completely think i was pregnant, but with me that is not the case. i don't want to take a preg test because i don't want to go through what i did a few months back, but i also do not want to go to the doctor and ring up more debt for nothing. does anyone have any idea what is wrong with me? isn't the medicine supposed to make me regular? can i even get pregnant without menstruating? is it really just my thyroid giving me symptoms of pregnancy?

Hi there and welcome to the forum.  I had hypothyroidism as well.  It was difficult to get the signs of a period coming in the form of PMS but then to wait for my period.  PLUS, the symptoms of the hypothyroidism.

PMS symptoms I do think also seem a bit like pregnancy symptoms.  Many women post here thinking they may be pregnant not realizing those same symptoms overlap to PMS.

If you haven't had unprotected sex, no need to take a test to see if you are pregnant.  I will also say that symptoms of pregnancy start much more gradually than some think. Something like nausea for example starts for most women on average around weeks 6 to 7 of pregnancy.  It takes a bit of time for the hormones of pregnancy to accumulate enough to cause symptoms.

Ya know, there is a strong link between hypothyroidism and mild depression.  Do you have any of that going on? when I had that, I worked on the depression angle and it helped the hypothyroidism.  I actually normalized over time.  I went on to have a regular period and two healthy kids.  peace and luck

Hello,
Hypothyroidism is an important cause of irregular periods.  However pregnancy also needs to be ruled out. At the early stage of pregnancy, the level of circulating HCG may still be low to be detected by routine urine pregnancy test. But you can do a serum pregnancy test (more sensitive than urine pregnancy test) to know the exact level of your HCG 1-2 weeks after ovulation or after a missed period. However, it will be better if you seek consult to an OB-GYNE specialist so you will be thoroughly assessed.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
