leukocytes

i'm not sure if this is the right place to post my question...so i am very sorry if it is not. i went to the gynecologist today and they said i had leukocytes in my urine. i have not had a uti ever and am not experiencing any symptoms. they sent a sample to the lab to have it checked. is it abnormal to have leukocytes in urine? this happened to me last year and the test came back fine - no uti. should i be worried?

When I looked online all I could find was it meant there could be an infection. Since your doctor knows about it, if you do have an infection they should be able to give you an antibiotic.

Its just a fancy word for white blood cells.  Very commonly happens if the sample wasn't scrupolously clean when obtained.  It is almost impossible for a woman to obtain a true clean catch.

Doesn't necessarily mean infection, but the culture should tell.
