lifetime of never ending periods

I have been messed up since I got my first period at 11. They never seem to end and when they do it only stays gone a day or two. Especially if I have sex. Birth control pills helped for a while but never really answered the question "what's wrong w/ me?" So last October I wanted to get pregnant so I quit taking BC pills and started suffering. The doctors just always act like it is no big deal. I would like to know that I am not the only one who has to wear a pad every day. I would like to know why my body does this. I would like to know some way to fix it.

I am a little overweight, I have recently been having painful pimples on my body and face, I do have some face hair. I have never been diagnosed with anything. I used to have a lot of pain, but I do not anymore. I am 25 years old

HI,

PCOD is a very easy way of doctors saying that they have no idea what is going on.  I have been diagnosed with PCOD, and the doctors act like it is no big deal too when I get a period that never ends.  I take a birth control pill with progesterone (progesterone is what makes your period stop).  I do not take the pills continuously becasue they make me gain weight and nauseated.  What I have found is that If i gain too much weight I will not get my period, if I loose too much my period will never stop and I have to call in a RX for BC pills.  Have you had an ultrasound? I had an ultrasound while my period wouldnt stop one time, and they found "cysts" on my ovaries.  It was explained to me that these cysts create their own hormones that mess everything up.  Honestly, I think it has something to do with fats and weight, estrogen, the problem is that the never ending period will force you to gain weight in order to stop it... dont fall into that trap!
Until doctors find out what is wrong with peoepl liek us, we have to live with it.  Typically when my period will not stop is when I loose weight now.. I get alot of zits and i seem to feel very nervous..my advice is to learn how to control your body - take high progesterone BC pills to stop the periods and dont take them regularly- just to "trick" the body to stop the period. And know that EVERY woman has hair on their bodies.. just take it off...

I havent had an never ending period since last year, I was going to the gym too much, I called in and got progesterone BC pills, and gained some weight.  I understand how you feel thought- I have had periods for months on end- luckily my boyfreind at the time understood.. otherwise it can destroy your sex life and relationships!

i have PCOS.  some of what you describe sounds like you may have it except the never ending period. most women with PCOS don't have a period each month.  i have always had a period each month, just never the same day.  always irregular in that sense.  another thing about PCOS, is that you can have high insulin and that is called insulin resistant.  basically your body can't use what you produce so the pancreas thinks you need more therefore being high insulin which just holds onto each little fat cell it can find.  so that is why it is hard for us to lose weight.  i also had dermoid tumors on my ovaries which are back now.  but i was able to conceive 2 children.  i used clomid the first time and it took 2 rounds of it to work.  with my 2nd i was taking metformin and i got pregnant on my own.  so all that i know of, i only ovulated 2x in my life.  but i am just guessing.  metformin is used to treat the insulin resistance.  it is really helpful because keeping the insulin lower will reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes.

you should get checked out for this because you could still have it. and definitely get your fasting insulin and glucose tested.  hope this helps.

I do not have PCOS/PCOD. It is the same thing.
I was suggesting that as solution to your problem, but thanks.

Ask your doc to test you for POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN DISEASE.
PCOD can cause hirsutism (hairiess), irreg cycles, and most women are overweight who have it. It is treatable.
See your doc!
