metal clamp left in abdomen from colonoscopy

My sister has chron's disease.  last year she had a colonoscopy & they removed some polyps.  The dr informed her there was a clamp left inside her but it should dissolve.  SInce then she has lost 60 pounds because she cant eat..has no or little potassium & her liver & kidneys are shutting down.  She is now with a new dr who has run every test in the book but still has yet to remove this clamp.  Her hair is falling out in clumps & she cant eat or drink anything without vomiting..she is now in the er for the 5 th time but for some reason they just give her fluids and send her home, saying she has to make an appt to get the clip removed..now they are doing a pet scan on her and i just worry she is going to die from this...any thoughts?

pisces,  it seems unlikely that the clamp is causing  these problems.

What are they doing to increase her potassium?  That deficiency alone can cause all the symptoms she is experiencing,  and in fact, that  could kill her.

Until they get her potassium within normal range,  the clamp probably should be secondary.

Also,  she needs a better doctor.  Going to the ER is no way to get comprehensive treatment - does she have a primary care doctor?

Link to potassium deficiency symptoms:

(note,  hair loss is not listed here but if you google low potassium hair loss,  you'll find it is a symptom)

Best wishes.  I had a coworker who very nearly died and it was like a lightbulb going off when they discovered she was very low potassium,  which in her was easily treated.

she needs to demand that they remove the clamp.  if thats really whats causing all the problems she needs it to be removed.  Why if she has told the drs are they jus allowing for the clamp to remain inside ?  they should do an ultra sound or mri to see if the clamp "dissolved" the way it was supposed to. maybe thats why they are not listening to her cause they think it is supposed to already be gone.  no matter what though i would insist on the physician helping if that dr is refusing she needs to see another dr.

Never put metal into MRI.
