muscle spasms under breast in ribs

I have muscle spasm in or around the ribs on both sides (in the front under the breast and sometimes in the back at the same horizontal position), it feels like a ball rolling, in that it switches sides. It occurs even at night during sleep, painful enough to wake me.  I only know that when I relax and stretch (the side where the knot is) using several positions I have to wait till it goes away, in many cases to have it return in other places described above. What does it mean, how do I treat it.  I have high blood pressure and the meds deplete my potassium so I take a prescription supplement for that.  What should I be asking my doctor.

I have though the same thing but I have also had a hysterectomy! This spasm doesn't necessarily hurt, more than it is annoying, it feels just like when I was PG and baby would kick up against the ribs!  The strange thing is, I did have a left inguinal hernia repair 4 weeks ago and then this started within the last 3 days. It is really weird... Been reading everyone's comments. Unfortunately I hate bananas with a passion :/  but I'm going to start taking potassium and magnesium and see if it helps.  What's the part about bras? Because I have worn underwire bras all my life.

Just talked to a friend who is having this too.  Interestingly, my friend is a man.  I think everyone else who has reported this is a woman.

I would again like to thank whoever posted the suggestion to stretch your arm over your head in the opposite direction.  It really helps me.

I recently did without milk for two weeks and developed charlie horses, cramps in my feet and the terrible under the rib cramp.  I started taking calcium and they eased up.

Its calledcostochondritis or tietz syndrome. It is an inflammation of muscles that lead to lungs and rib cage. I was having same problems but mine lasted up to 10 mins. Saw dr and was diagnosed and prescribed muscle relaxers. Hope this helps.
