painful breasts

I'm 20 years old, almost 21 and the week before easter I felt a lump in my right boob and an all around tenderness in them in general. Come to find out I had a period after this and it was my hormones acting up. I took 6 pregnancy tests and a period so theres no way I'm pregnant. Well the lump has gradually gotton smaller and the tenderness lightened up but they still feel tender around the outer parts. I don't know if this is serious or not and would love some input.

You are probably on the right track hon.  The statistics are in your favor.  But do get it checked out just in case.  best of luck and let us know the outcome!

I read that cancer isn't common in someone my age.(almost a fresh 21) and I'm not pregnant so i have no idea what this is. maybe prolonged hormones from period or ovulating? or maybe just a cyst? all i can think of after researching.

Yes, I did.  I also had a cyst that was larger in size.  It was actually fluid filled and I had it aspirated.  But had I not, it would have shrunk in size as you describe yours doing.  Mine wasn't painful though.

I had lumps in my breasts with my second baby but keep in mind that I was pregnant with baby number two when baby number one was 6 months old.  My hormones from nursing that baby and being pregnant were all over the place.  But they were warm, hard lumps.

I also had a very scary mammogram a couple of years ago.  I had no lumps, no pain at all. But calcifications that were concerning enough that I found myself having a biopsy a week after the mammogram.  I had a bi rad rating of 5 (6 is definite cancer).  The calcifications were not cancerous, thank the lord.  But I had NO idea that anything was going on.

I do advocate for self exams and am glad you are doing that.  Would guess this will turn out to be nothing but make sure you don't skip seeing the doctor.  good luck hon

So you had lumps while pregnant I read about that. But I am not pregnant according to my period and 6 pregnancy tests. They have all gotten smaller and less painful but still what could this be. I really rather wait til I am home with my doctor I trust I don't have one where I am now.

Hi there.  Welcome.  I had a lump in my breast and it was a harmless cyst.  I had lumps like that also before breast feeding and as my hormones shifted in my milk ducts.  In both of these cases there was not a concern so don't immediately jump to conclusions that something like cancer is happening hon.  I would perhaps see a doctor sooner rather than later.  While it really is most likely nothing to worry about, the protocol for a lump in the breast is to get it checked by a doctor as soon as possible.  You'll be home in a week?  It's a toss up regarding waiting until then--  I understand wanting to wait.  But it would be peace of mind to have it looked at too and that is sometimes worth it.  Let us know what the doctor says.  good luck hon

Thank you, I planned on getting it checked out soon. It has become less and less sore and smaller as well. I rather wait til I am in my hometown in the beginning of May seeing the doctor I trust for answer. Or do you suggest I see someone sooner.

The lump in your breast sounds slightly alarming to be perfectly honest. Normal bumps and lumps can be caused by ingesting a lot of caffeine, but they feel like continual little rivets all around your breasts. An overall single lump though should be looked at by your doctor just to make sure it's really nothing. Your breasts can be tender during your menstrual cycle and during ovulation due to hormonal fluctuations, but a single, significant, painful lump should be looked at more intrusively.
