It's not just a problem with menstruation and it's not "solvable".  You can reduce symptoms, sometimes, by getting exercise and eating right (or losing 10% or more of your weight if you're overweight).  I would highly recommend asking your doctor more about polycystic ovarian syndrome - or even researching it on the internet.

PCOS is treatable but incureable. I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I am currently on a regimen of metformin, birth control, and spironolactone. Depending on if you are wanting to get pregnant, the birth control regulates your menstrual cycle. The metformin controls your insulin, PCOS coincides with insulin levels, your body becomes resistent and produces excess levels. Which causes the numerous cysts on your ovaries. The sprionolactone, lowers testosterone levels, which are high in most women with the disorder. In some causing excess hair growth on the body or thinning of the scalp hair, male pattern baldness. So far the medications have worked for me, but it is important to discuss it with your doctor. Although there is no cure, it can be managed. Weight loss has also helped me. It's tougher to lose with PCOS, but possible. Good luck
