unexplained vaginal itch and burning

For the past two weeks I have had a terrible, almost unbearable, itch and burning of the vagina/vulva with a yellowish, mucous-like discharge.  My dr initially suspected herpes, but all cultures for STDs and Pap came back negative.  I had a biopsy done and I am anxiously awaiting the results. What scares me is that even my dr seems puzzled.   In the meantime, I have also developed an area of redness, itching and generally raw skin between the buttocks, about halfway up.  Anyone ever heard of this or experienced it? What is going on with me?  I'm on pins and needles waiting for the biopsy, and of all the things I've read on the internet, nothing seems to explain the symptoms that I am having.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I know this was posted forever ago, but I have some insight. I struggled with this for a year and a half, and finally discovered my solution. There is a chemical in your soaps. shampoo and detegent (its in all soaps). This chemical is called Sodium Laurel Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate (aka SLS). This chemical, once on the skin, allows other harmful chemicals to invade upon your body and cause an itch/burn. This is what made me itch down there, and it was unbearable. I couldnt do ANYTHING without it hurting and stinging: standing, walking, having sex, going to the bathroom, etc. If youre still struggling with it, consider buying SLS free shampoo, soap, detergent, etc. I use JASON brand shampoo (found in natural/organic section in your grocery store), ivory and/or Dr. Bronner's soaps, and arm and hammer and/or plant based laundry detergent. Any trace of SLS on my skin causes me to itch and I aim to eliminate it out of everything I use.

hi,
i know what you mean about this subject beeing a littre freaky to talk about.. why dont you try to apply zincofax (baby diaper rash cream) it helps when its red and sore.. when i got my first yeast infection (how exiting!!) i used the zincofax the fisrt day untill i saw my doctor ant it helped with the redness.. i wrote to another person who was asking advice about vaginal problem, and told her to try to apply plain yogurt to her vagina.. believe me it works.. the first time i was told about this i was a little freaked out about the idea but after looking up information on this on the internet and actually trying it i was glad i did..(just make sure its plain yogurt) my gyn told me that often we get infections in the vagina because we are missing these ( i dont know what) but that the active bacteria in the yogurt helps balance out what we are missing that can cause a yeast infection or other types of infection.. so why not!! sometimes the antibiotics that we are given dont really work right away or at all so this helps..    Julie

there's really no smell to the discharge, and it just looks like mucous - a lot of it.  I had treated myself with OTC yeast infection cream when this mess all started and it only made it worse so we have ruled that out.  It's just so frustrating to be dealing with a problem in the private area.  I mean, it's not like you can talk to a lot of people about it, ya know?  I'm still waiting for the biopsy results and just ready to pull my hair out over this as it's been almost three weeks.  Ugh.

what about a vaginal infection?? sometimes a vaginal infestion has a little bit of the yeast infection sypmtoms (the redness, itchy burning sensation)and even the thick cottage cheese like discharge.. but from what the doctor told me the discharge could be white clear thin or really thick and i know this might sound gross SORRY but it smells like yeast (bread or even beer) after i was told this i did some research  on the internet and its true. do you have a strong smell? or yellowish grey discharge?  hope this helps..i know it could be crappy to go through this..
