Advil

I went to the breast specialist for the first time yesterday. One of my openings is closing now but  already have another bump growing and she said she would have to drain it soon. She recommended that I take Advil 3 times a day as anti inflammatory. Has anyone been prescribed this before?

I'm in the same situation as you.  I had one drained and another one is flaring up.
my hubby who's a doc, prescribed me Methylprednisolone for 6 days.  Although this is the first day taking this, I can obviously feel it smaller and less painful.  I believe it is working so far!!!! Give it a try if your doc agrees. But, I will let you know and update with you after six days of taking this!!!!

may God heal you....

My surgeon recommended an anti-inflamatory at one time.  Aleve is in the naproxen family therefore it was recommended that I NOT take it due to asthma and possible stomach problems.  I was given a high dose Ibroprofen which helped for short term.   I still ended up with abscesses upon abscesses.

I personally have not although I have been given prescription pain relievers as needed but I am currently on prednisone and methotrexate for the GM but its only been about 6 weeks so no miracles yet lol.

My surgeon always recommended Danzen and Olfen both for inflammation and pain. I usually decide on my own seeing the condition of the abscess if i want to take them. You can put a search for these two meds. I guess they aren't very harsh on the stomach or no mood swings either. You may wanna ask your doctor too about these medicines considering the fact that everybody's condition is different. I've not yet opted for Steroids either. Just put in some healthy routine to my exisiting unhealthy depressed lifestyle :))).

I've taken the steroids for anti-inflammatory (high and low dose) but never given straight up Advil. I do have prescription IBProfen in 600mg tabs that I have the option of taking (1 every 6hrs for pain)... Considering it's such a frequent high dosage and I'm on Prednisone, I just prefer not to use it... I do get "actual" pain medication though.

advil is a minor anti inflammatory

I have never heard of it prescribed for this before but it could help a little I suppose

more widely prescribed for GM are some of the big anti inflammatories - particularly prednisone or methotrexate

I did take Naproxen for some time, (months at a pretty high dose - it really attacks your stomach lining though so I went off), which I guess is a step up from advil, and is a non steroidal anti inflammatory (NSAID), can't say if it helped with the inflammation or not, I think it did a bit with the pain, but I still developed masses when on it

No anti inflammatory here, but then I am already on a prescription anti inflammatory for another illness.  But my doctors have never mentioned it.
