Celiac Disease, Gluten, Abscesses without biopsy?

Hello all,

I have been puzzling through this disease and my symptoms, and I have a couple of questions that I was hoping you guys could help me with.

First, I have been thinking that it is possible that I might also have celiac disease. Have any of you been diagnosed with celiac disease? Or have any of you ever been tested? Or have any of you tried a gluten free diet?

Also, I was wondering if any of you have ever had lumps that turned into abscesses that broke through the skin without being punctured or cut at all. The only abscesses that I had that broke through the skin started after I had my first biopsy. I just wondered what the lumps would do if they were never punctured at all.

I hope you are doing well!  I'm sorry to hear that you have another abscess forming. Do you still have a mass of inflammation? I have noticed that "trauma" to the inflammation just aggravates it.  For me ultrasounds, lancing, biopsy, etc all caused my inflammation to get worse.  I recently had a biopsy done.  And within the few days following the biopsy, my mass became bigger, more red, and painful.  I am doing a few home remedies now to fight the inflammation and so far it's working.  I stopped taking all my meds about 3 weeks ago.  With the flare up after my biopsy, I was unsure how I would get my inflammation down without prednisone but so far, I have seen quite an improvement.  

If you don't mind me asking, how far along are you or when are you due?  I really feel for ya having to deal with this disease while pregnant.  Just stay positive and know that you will beat this disease! And you will have so much to look forward to and fight for when baby comes.  Hang in there!

Oops, hard to type on this thing. Anyway, I prefer for them to drain on a dry gauze so that I can lightly press the pus out and so that the opening stays open for a few days.

Hi! I don't have celiac disease but maybe you could ask your doctor to check you anyways. I had one abscess landed, then packed for three days. The inflammation and was so bad, I couldn't go through the wound packing everyday, so the breast surgeon put in a Penrose drain. It was the worst pain ever, but it was better than packing the abscess everyday. I am pregnant, and so my Dr preferred for the abscesses to come open on their own, which I am thankful for. It seems that the lumps closer to the surface eventually open up. However, there are a few that feel deep. Recently I started to feel better and the abscesses healed up and scarred (about a week pain free). However, just last night I started to flare up again. Yay, me!! Either way, letting them come open on their own is less aggravating for my skin.I noticed that when they come open in the shower, the moisture makes the skin seal quicker, and I prefer for th er so I can lightly press or squeeze

She didnt quite diagnose me with celiac disease but also mentioned the rash could be due to a B12 or other deficiency.

So yesterday I saw a naturopath doctor and in speaking about rash, I mentioned this red rash of tiny bumps on my upper arm in the back.  I've had it forever and always wondered what it was because it bothered me cause it looks bad.  Well I asked if she knew what it could be from and she mentioned Celia disease and the rash could be from gluten!  We didn't go much into it because I was there more for an overview of my symptoms and next appointment is reserved for treatment plan.  But just thought I'd mention this to you since I remember you asking about it.  I have no idea if its related to GM but I've had that rash for over 5 years.  It doesn't bother me other than how it looks.  I'm currently following an anti inflammatory diet and I believe it includes staying away from gluten.  Thankfully alot of foods nowadays are being made gluten free, even noodles!

As for the lumps that burst...yes. As Amy669 said, the skin becomes thin and bursts open. Personally, I would use a pin and drain the area. The skin would be so thin that a gentle prick and the fluid would pour out. For me this was better than the tearing. I am not recommending this...this is something I decided to do myself. This was not the recommendation of my doctor or wound care nurses.

Hi again.  It has been awhile.
No celiac disease here.
If the lump comes to the surface, and nothing is done, it bursts of its own accord. The skin is so thin surrounding the sack of puss, that any friction on that skin will probably rip it. I am pretty sure I have read about that in this group.
