hi maggie..hope you're having one of the better days. i'm interested to know why your doctor decide to stop the drug, what exactly is your condition if i may ask. bcos i was on prednisone for a very short time and the doctor says since there's no improvement i should just stop and go for surgery. i haven't but i'm surprised when i found this forum and discover there's so many types of drug to try instead of going for surgery.
Welcome to the group. I am so sorry that you too have to suffer the pain and misery of this strange and painful disease. The best thing you can do for yourself is read thru the entries in this forum. There is so much information here. I am 49 years old and was diagnosed last year. Like you I did several rounds of anti-biotics with no success. I tried a "wait and see" approach, but that drove my family nuts. Then when I had several new abcesses, I decided to follow the advise of may on line women and see a Rheumatologist, because GM is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, rather than a breast cancer. So, for the past few months I have been taking a combination of Prednisone, Methotrexate and Plaquinim along with a gammit of vitamins. I am having some real success with this. My scars are slowly disappearing. My misshapped, hardend breast is becoming supple once more. I am ALMOST done with the prednisone. The others will continue as he monitors my blood and urine lab work, and if all goes well I should be able to wean from them too. One day at a time. I am fortunate that I have tolerated these drugs well. Many women who have tried this fairly traditional approach have not been able to tolerate the drugs. I feel badly for them. The disease is difficult enough without dealing with side-effects. My best wishes to you as you sort thru the dearth of information out there. Welcome, and there are no dumb questions when it comes to "the girls" and these issues.
