GM- Need to know how to use Healing Clay?

Please help me...need to know how to prepare the healing clay?
Do you apply directly to skin?
Do you use water or warm Virgin Olive Oil?
When you rinse off does the color change?

Sorry, I have not been on this site for awhile.  I went to my rheumatologist today after 6 months.  He was shocked.  He said: you have cured yourself.  I am used to looking at the breast every day so I did not realize that over this 6 months the appearance of the breast has really improved.  If you palpitate it, you hardly feel anything unusual.  The shape is almost normal.  I also told him the story of the armpit and he was delighted.  He says he's going to try to do some research on the clay.  (I have tried and I still do not understand exactly why or how the clay works.)  I told him about the dairy farmers putting the clay on the udders when the cows get mastitis, which I think I mentioned in an earlier post.
I still wear the clay, but only at night now.  This means I can wear any kind of bra I feel like during the day.  I never have pain or twinges any more.

Hi Amy!
I am happy to hear from you. I have been wondering about you and your adventures with the clay : ) I haven't used it for a while. I have been doing better...although this last week I think I have been having a flare-up - HORRIBLE pain in both of my breasts...and of course, when I touch the areas that hurt, there are tons of new lumps. Some of them are very large. I have been doing a lot better for a while now, and it is scary to have new symptoms. I am thinking that maybe the stress and diet changes over the holidays have set something off. I wonder if I will ever be "normal" or "healthy" again. Anyway, I am glad to hear that you are ok. Sorry about your scare. I will pray for improvement for you.

Update on my continuing use of clay:

Hello everyone.  I still check in to this discussion every couple of days.  I admire all of you who have changed your diets.  I tried to do that, and was not that good at sticking with it.  My diet is very healthy but it is not an autoimmune diet.

I had a bit of a scare around December 8. My armpit (on the same side as the GM) started hurting (that's happened before, so I ignored it). When I my hand there to feel where the pain was, there was a huge lump, and when I looked at it in the mirror I could see two red dots in the middle of a protruding lump (the size of two green grapes). So, I guess it was a double cyst. The pain was pretty intense, but it was the kind that comes with pressure or movement, not the stabbing pain that comes even when you are still and which is characteristic of GM.  Anyway, I did not panic.  I made a poultice out of clay and secured it with the huge size bandaid.  I wore clay for about six days, changing the poultice about twice a day and the cysts disappeared.  During that time I got another cyst between my diseased breast and the armpit.  It was a lot smaller.  I did the same thing with a lump of clay and a bandaid and three days later it was gone.

I still wear the clay most of the time.  My breast looks and feels different every day.  Sometimes there is a wash of redness, sometimes the redness is nothing but a series of little red dots, if you look closely.  The pattern of red dots seems to be always changing.  Sometimes there are subtle lumps, then eventually these lumps go away.

The clay is very comfortable.  My doctors so far have bought my plan which was: let me keep at this and see what happens when I pass through menopause (I should have by now).  Then when the hormones quiet down, maybe the disease will quiet down also and I can wean myself off the clay.

Hello,

We had a post called "About that clay" in this forum on Apr 10 of this year...if you look back through this forum, you should be able to find it. I think that if you read that post it will answer most of your questions. If you have any more, post them here, and I will answer.

Basically the healing clay is called calcium bentonite clay. You can buy it at health food stores. Yes, it helps significantly with the GM pain and symptoms. It was the most helpful thing I found.

I am sooooo sorry! I hope and pray that you will heal. Surgery should be avoided...and yet so many surgeons are quick to do it. This site is filled with stories of women who have been butchered. Granulomatous Mastitis is thought to be an autoimmune condition. Steroids and other drugs, diet and lifestyle changes are necessary to combat this. Fine Needle Aspirations to drain inflamations are far less prone to infection and heal more effectively. The less invasive the better.
You can expect your surgery to heal VERY slowly. You ARE likely to have a reaccurance...but don't be afraid of that. Just don't let the surgeon cut into you.
See a Rheumatologist. They are equipped to fight Autoimmune diseases. Surgeons can help manage it...but far too many women have unnecessary surgeries, and complications from them. Most of all READ, Read about Granulomatous diseases. Read this forum, there is much here. Read about the drugs you will be taking, but don't be afraid.
It is a manageable disease.

I agree with Jennifer about the mixing.  I use one part clay to 2 parts water.  Mix with plastic utensil in plastic container.
The only real difference between the way I use the clay and the way some others use it is that I leave in on all the time.  It is just sitting there, sort of formed in the shape of the breast beneath the jogging bra.  Because the GM breast is smaller, this clay addition actually evens outs the sizes of the 2 breasts.  Funny.  I was terrified the first time I tried the clay.  I had no idea how the breast would react.  I "imagined" that weird things were happening. I learned by experience that it had a dramatic effect on the pain.  The healing is taking a long time, however.  The skin is a little red when the clay is removed. But it does not actually get irritated unless the clay is allowed to dry on the skin.  Then you will have some discomfort.

Just like she said. Water is good. I found it draws out the puss (I would say infection...but we all know it is sterile).  Haven't done it for a long time....maybe I will have a go.

Hi. Yes, I apply it directly to my skin, even if I have an open wound, I just put it right on there.
I use water. I have also used apple cider vineger, but I would not use that in an open wound. I have never used olive oil.

Mix the clay with enough water that it makes a moist paste. You can't really use too much water or clay - just experiment with what texture works best for you. If it is too dry, it won't stick to your skin well. If it is too wet, it will be runny, and you won't be able to make a very thick layer. But really, you can't mess it up.
When you put the clay on, it will be a darker color. As it dries, the color of the clay will get lighter. After you rinse it off, your skin will probably be pink/red; this will fade over the next few minutes - 1 hour.

If you have any more questions I will answer them. Also, if you scan back through the posts, Amy and I have posted a lot about the clay, so you can find details there. Amy does it a little differently than I do. We have both found it to be very soothing and helpful. Hope it helps you too : )
