I have had IGM in both breasts, has anyone else? Has anyone had an IGM recurrance?

I am so glad to have found this forum! IGM is so rare that most of the medical community doesn't know what IGM is.

I am 57. I was also diagnosed with IGM almost a year ago this Nov. It has been a very hard year. I developed it first in my right breast. For 5 plus months I went through all of the mammograms, ultrasounds, needle aspersions, core biopsies, rounds of antibiotics, abscesses and ended up ultimately needing surgery. That breast has been fine now since the surgery.

Two months later I developed a large lump on my left breast, it too was IGM. I went on antibiotics and this time we went right into surgery and the surgeon drained a very large abscess. I saw my doctor today and everything looks like it is healing.

My fear is that it will return. Has anyone in this forum had that happen? What have you done differently this time? Any advice on treating IGM with traditional medicine with a naturopath?

Thanks so much, Laurie

I tried a naturopath and spent a lot of money on supplements and ultimately decided that it wasn't helping... so I went back to acupuncture and Chinese medicine... and it helped, but did not provide a cure or resolve the problem.  I decided to ask for a bilateral mastectomy and the surgery is scheduled for 10/31.

I was treated by a naturopath.  I think her stance is taffy it is the patients choice if they want to continue antibiotics but she is willing to help you with the effects of being on traditional medicine.  I think she's a great doctor.  The only thing I did was a super short 10 day round of steroids (burst) that an emergency care dr prescribed me.  I went to him about blood clots during the weekend and he insisted I try a steroid burst, I did, no side effects and who knows if it helped at all.

I personally love my naturopath doctor, sadly our insurance doesn't cover it but I pay out of pocket because it's worth it.  The wealth of information she shares with me and the kind of care I get from her can't be compared to the care I get from my regular physician. I wish you all the best on your journey

Congratulations and all the best!!

Thanks for the information about your experience and having it bilaterally. The antibiotics didn't take it away for me either but my doctor wanted me to be on them mainly because of the infection and concern about going septic.

I discussed using a naturopath along with traditional medicine with my doctor. She said it wouldn't hurt and why not go for it, but for me to keep an open mind to what sounded suspicious and overpriced. Also, that it doesn't hurt to build up the immune system with supplements. I'm still on the fence about it though.

Also glad to hear that you too are doing great. L

I have bilateral IGM as well.  Mine started with my left breast which was treated (unsuccessfully as usual) with different antibiotics.  It suddenly got really bad very quickly and I had a surgery about a year ago.

Earlier this year I started having problems in my right breast, which were treated (also unsuccessfully) with steroids.  However my doc was able to do several in office incisions on the different areas that were bad.

Thankfully been doing great for the past few months.  A couple of weeks ago I found out I am pregnant, with twins.

I don't know about treating with a naturopath, but that is a very interesting Idea to me.  I am glad you are doing well, and I hope you continue in that way.
