Just wanted to add, that in order to keep activity around here to a minimum, if you acknowledge the spirit when you first feel him, very little happens. It remains calm. Ignoring just gets stuff rolling. Then you have to do the whole sage burning routine.
It could be that we have 2 teenage girls living in the house but we get lots of poltergeist activity. Once my pearls disappeared. Showed up 2 weeks later on my bathroom floor. My jewelry is kept in a safe. And I have my own bathroom. That was the most worrisome one. And the safe was locked.
I saw my first one at age 4 or 5. I don't remember. I told my mom about the guy in the basement. At first she thought I was talking about an imaginary friend. My brother used to lock me in the basement for giggles. Mom thought I made it up. But when I went into detail about his accident, I was slapped and told never to talk about that again.
I've seen mists, flashes of a person but the most memorable is a solid black figure that appears in my home from time to time. The kids have seen him. I never said a word to anyone. They came to me. He's not scary but he will startle you. He's mid height maybe 5'9" or so. Stocky. But no one is scared of him. My oldest has seen him sitting at the kitchen table. Scared him at first but figured out he's not out to hurt anyone. I've no idea who or what he is.
I have felt spirits, been sensitive to my environment for a while now. I can feel it when something bad has happened in a place.
